BTW, Hows talao-pali? Boating/Chat stalls still there? What about Gokhala road and upvan ?

Thane under the leadership of then Municipal Commissioner Mr.Chandrashekar had widened the Roads and removed the illegal Shops even within the vicinity of the Railway Station overnight. Thane have Very Good Concrete Roads. Have reasonable infrastructure and place for relaxation like Talaopali, Upvan, Yevoor Hills, Sooraj Water Park, Tikuji-ni-wadi, etc. as of now. I believe it may be the only town in India which has 20 Lane Road (10 either side including Highway & Service Roads parallel to it). Thane now has beautiful Skyscrappers and real estate rates are even higher than the Mumbai suburbs for the premium projects. However, the most ambitious Ring Rail / Maglave Train project seems to have taken backseat as of now. Most worrysome factor is that most of Mumbaikars are now shifting to Thane from Mumbai suburbs.
Really inspiring about you all still remembers Thane.
However, today's Headlines of our Times of India states a very sad story that only 10Acres out of 170Acres of Closed Mill Land of Mumbai will be reserved for open spaces or for public purposes and rest will go the Builders to build concrete Jungle.

Those are really cool snaps of thane. Really enjoyed the view. Used to pass by all of them while I was in thane.

Hey guys...do not expect much to happen..the italian missy has already told the chief minister to stop the slum demolitions....all her party mp's and mla's from mumbai are up in arms since it is going to affect their vote banks..this is going to be a big tragedy since there was a lot of optimism that mumbai is going to receive a facelift..till then..let us live in hope...

Mumbai and India needs Major surgery not face lift.....
I do not believe that things are that bad...As a regular visitor to both Canada as well as India..there are many things that have improved in India..for starters the Multiplex and the Mall culture. I feel that there are now better cinema halls in Mumbai than Toronto and cheaper too..There is a multiplex at Nariman Point..INOX which is like a five star hotel and believe it or not they are going to start a wine bar where wine will be served by the glass..The second striking aspect are some of the highways and expressways..the pune mumbai expressway is much better than any of the highways in Canada..and well maintained as well...Yes, I agree that Mumbai needs a makeover but the population and the political system is such that things work slowly...but I believe that things can only improve...
Another aspect that I notice in Mumbai is the availability of international products..I was at a store in Mumbai where on the shelf were frozen fish products from New Brunswick, Canada..Can you believe that..

I never understood why developement or better quality of life is equated to mall's and multiplexs! Does Mumbai have gardens or public spaces like developed cities have? What about the roads? or rather what roads? There are no roads there. There are no sidewalks. Illegal hawkers are on sidewalks, pedestrains walk on the roads leaving no space for cars. and guess what? When you buy a car you pay taxes - road taxes. And you get pot hole infested excuse of a road to drive on. Hawkers pay nothing and still do business easily on sidewalks. Someone said something about mumbai-pune expressway. I drove on that road as recently as March this year and there were pot holes on the road! Imagine driving at 120kmph and your car goes BANG! in a pot hole. All this 31,500 crore stuff is crap. Firstly, no such money will be given. Even if it does make it 31,499 crores will go into vilasrao deshmukh's retirement fund.
