Hi:
I need an advise from the experts:)

I am a canadian citizen lving with my wife here. Sponsored her when got married. I like to bring my nephew as an family immigrant to canada. My income is 40 k.he is 14 years old. Parents are divorced and he lives with his father. What i understand from reading official immigration website, i cant sponsor him in family category as i already have family member here (wife) and he is not orphan. SO what best can i do. is adoption is the only way out. what is the process of adoption.

Please advise
Thanks in advance

I assume that your nephew lives in India. Based on that, you may have to go through the international adoption process. First, you need to contact the agency (certified by the province) to do a home study.

Home study is where the agent will interview you and your spouse about various things and finally certify that you have completed the home study.

Next, you have to process the adoption in India under the laws of India and get their approval. Then, you can apply for Cdn immigration with evidence of your home study and Indian paperwork.

The estimated expense for this (according to the provincial agency) was about $30000 to 40000. Don't ask me why!! I too almost fained hearing the number. However, we are considering adoption from an orphanage and we are also considering children from south american countries besides India. So, who knows, adopting thro'a relative may not be that expensive.

Ask your employer if they offer financial assistance for adoption. Both mine and my spouse's company offers up to $10000 each as a monetary assistance towards adoption related expenses (this is not a loan).

Hope this helps.
