We at Canadian Desi come from various professional fields and have even formed some groups where people have registered either to volunteer professional help, or just to keep in touch with others in the same profession. This Group formation was a brainchild of the first meeting at my place.

It is now time that we actually put into action what we have wanted to do - atleast with the Finance, Accounting and Tax professionals, a group which I belong to. I propose a meeting of professionals from this group at my place sometime in near future. This meeting can be for multifold purposes like:

1. Getting to know each other and interact about the profession in General.

2. Discuss the various aspects of profession in Canada in particular, relating to issues like designations, prospects, job opportunities, etc.

3. Forming alliances between persons presently actively engaged in private practice either full time or part time.

4. Discuss avenues of self employment in the profession with or without local designations. This could be directed towards traditional services like book-keeping and tax returns to related services like mortgages, mutual funds and insurance selling.

5. Devise ways of helping persons looking for jobs in the field of accouting/finance/tax/banking etc. This could range from review of resume to mentoring, to actual help help in recommanding, both to a prospective employer or the network of a person in high places!!

6. I have heard rumors that Canadian CA is now recognising Indian CA by giving them exemptions from the regular requirements and allowing them to take one final test (just like US CPAs - the ones who are CPAs before landing). We can discuss such issues and how we can help in getting this thru, its advantages or flaws etc.

7. Writing some articles in CD in relation to this profession whereby a newcomer can be directed to the artilce for general enquiry (like bringing funds from home and declaration of funds lying outside Canada.......)

And etc. etc. etc.

I propose a meeting at my condo's meeting room (for no charge) which can easily accomodate about 40 persons on 31st July between 2 and 5 pm. And let me add - this is not only for CAs/CSs/ICWAs but for anyone in finance/accounting fields like finance brokers/bankers etc.

CONGRATS! charity begins at home , this is the example you are setting, good begining.
A similar to this idea I've already requested for all the Sr Desis for all prospective immigrants, ( the issue is posted in the section "Moving Soon" I am sure you can expand the area applying for all the prospective immigrants, I sincerely request you all senior desis to give a thought on the matter , it definitely shall assist and boost morales of all the prospective immigrants, you too could have been in the same boat may be few years back, so you can very well empathise with us.
As it is people have been waiting for the migration from a minimum of 3 years to more , they have been making moves accordingly in their lives, and nobody would like to give it up without giving it a try after all the years of waiting, I think you are getting what I mean.
