Hi there! we recently got our Canadian PR and are planning to land in Toronto in April 2005.

I am a finance professional and my wife is a journalist, and we are at present working in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We have a three year old daughter.

We want to utilise this time well to prepare ourselves for life in Canada - professional and social.

Are there any good books or websites or resource centres that can provide us guidance on jobs, housing, education, etc.

We have been looking for information in a haphazard manner, and would like to get some kind of direction.

Also, we chose Ontario and Toronto in particular as we have some friends there. What is the best place in Ontario or the best locality in Toronto for fresh immigrants?

What should be the criteria for selecting an area or a locality? Should it be community support, job opportunities or education?

I should mention here that i really feel fortunate to have come across the Canadiandesi website. A lot of views expressed reflect our sentiments.

For you try to settle in GTA area near mississauga, malton as i guess you will be near your community and it is convenient to get buses for all three corners like, Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto.

U will also find your community people living in this area.

this is a forum very similar like this excepting that this forum comprises of all Desis like us, while the other one deals with people round the world.
All the queries you have this forum has the answers for that.

Thanks interceptor! yes, it's a good suggestion. after reading the messages on this website, i can see that GTA is where we have to find opportunities.

hi guys! i have another inquiry. My daughter will be 3 years and seven months by the time we land in Canada in April 2005. At what age do they admit children in schools - i mean GTA schools? Do they take children in the middle of a term?
