Just walk into food bank and enquire.
Once you satisfy their requirements they will give you food.
Each food bank has its rules. They may give hampers 6 times or 12 times a year. Each one will come for 3-10 days.
Sometimes bread is unlimited (as per stocks). They also throw good veggies into the garbage on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm. If you go there at 3: 00 pm, on friday, you can get veggies for a week.
In India, I am buying cauliflower at Rs 80 a KG, beans at Rs 110 a kg etc..
Some really deserving enroll in more than one food bank. So they get multiple food. Also some food banks give you bus tickets free for you to visit them.

Thanks for the information about food banks. I know nothing about them, but after going through this forum, I see lot of posts on that topic. I put food banks in the search in this forum, and lot of posts came up.
I need to do more research on that.
Is this something Indian immigrants to Canada do on a regular basis ? I regularly donate to food banks, its nice to see Indian people benefitting from it.
I am sorry to say this but food bank is for people who do not have any other means. I get pissed off when people think that they are smart and beat the system.
Do not try to get benefits when you have means. I have heard that some old people( from well to do family) go to the food banks and then donate to temples and think that they are doing good KARMA! Makes me so mad!
Living on food bank. Is it fun in claiming a life of a Refugee.
For me its not..
