This country started to develop around 400 years ago, till then it was a Barren land and Forest. So, the relics and buildings that are considered Old by the world standards, are pretty new. Yet we all want to see some of the OLD Land Marks that are available for us to see and it is NOW they will open the same for us to see them for FREE.

WHAT IS DOORS OPEN? Is it free. YES it is FREE.

Each and every town does that from time to time, so keep your eyes peeled open and if you are traveling by those buildings and museums, do drop in and visit them. The dates these sites are made available to us for free are in their lists. So Check for all of these things before you start. Plan ahead. Generally the parking on Saturdays and Sundays are free. So, use those days and if the kids are not free due to exams etc., see if they are open for a free visit after the schools close. AND...

I've never heard about this program before. When did Doors Open Ontario start?
The first Doors Open event occurred in France in 1984 (where it was called la Journée Portes ouvertes). It became popular quickly and, by 1991, was known across Europe as European Heritage Days – an initiative of the Council of Europe. In Canada, the first Doors Open event occurred in Toronto in 2000, followed in 2002 by Doors Open Ontario – an initiative of the Ontario Heritage Trust – the first provincewide event of its kind in Canada. More information …
Does Doors Open Ontario only occur on one weekend every year?

No, there are dozens of Doors Open Ontario events to attend each year throughout the province – starting in April and running until October. Some events run for a single day, while others run for an entire weekend. You can choose which communities interest you and plan your weekend getaways accordingly. Spend a spring weekend in Kingston, or enjoy a fall getaway in the Niagara region. Wherever you go, there’s a Doors Open Ontario event waiting for you! See all events happening this year …
I own a heritage building. How do I get involved in Doors Open Ontario?

First, check the Doors Open Ontario website to see if your community is participating in this year’s Doors Open program. If they are, contact the local organizer of the event to inquire about getting involved. Each Doors Open Ontario event page has contact information so you can open a dialogue with the event organizers. While Doors Open Ontario is run by the Ontario Heritage Trust as a province wide initiative, each community event is locally run. The Trust does not select the participating sites – that’s all done at the local level. So, establishing contact with the local organizers is your important first step. For a complete list of this year’s events …
I would love to see our community participate in this program. How can we get involved in Doors Open Ontario?

The Ontario Heritage Trust welcomes new communities to the Doors Open program every year. Our staff offers expertise and assistance on everything from how to coordinate a team to run the event to dealing with volunteers. The Trust also provides registered communities with a comprehensive set of tools to help them organize successful events. To get your community involved …
Is Doors Open Ontario free?

The basic premise of this program is to invite people to visit sites of interest that are not normally open to the public – for free. There may be value-added tours or on-site gift shops that will cost extra. But access to the building during the Doors Open event is free of charge.

-------

I had the opportunity of taking the CN Tower Tour that day. (Sun) The view was dull but had occasional burst of sunshine to let us get a clear picture of the nearby areas.

On the way out we went to the Commerce court and the interiror was lit very nicely and got a few pictures of the decorated ceiling. Location. : King and Yonge area.

Also Passed by Casa Loma nearby Spadina and called it a day. Had a nice meal at Rexdale Blvd and carried home a dozen Samosas for the next days snacks.

All in all the open door lets us see a few of their attractions listed, each year, for FREE and may be in a few years to come will get to see them all and have nice album for every one to see.

Thanks for the asking.

Have a nice day.

FH.
