What I feel, ingredient of success in Canada are bit different than rest of the world. Of course you always need following ingredients:

ATTITUDE
SKILLS
KNOWLEDGE
ABILITY

If you want to settle down in Canada specially when you are coming from an Asian country. First you must do some research and prepare yourself for usual hurdles you may face in this country. You must have strategic planning ( for everything including job, housing, etc) before you land here. After landing try to blend yourself into Canadian Society as quick as possible. Be sincere, hardworking and aggressive ( Canada is not a place for lousy immigrants). Although even than no one can guarantee a success but I am sure this will make your transition very smooth and pleasant.

What about, my Desi friends, the importance of STRATEGY, which has not been discussed hre yet. there are after all many ways to succeed. the strategy you choose will determine your success rate.

in indonesia the way to get rich is TO KEEP EVERYONE ELSE POOR. you start a factory and make things for pennies then sell them for dollars. if this is your strategy in indonesia, you have a good change of succeeding.

in america the way to get rich is to CREATE VALUE. this is the soul of ENTREPRENEURISM. you make a better mousetrap or using promotion and marketing (i.e. Calvin Klein, etc) you ADD VALUE. if you use this strategy in USA, you will succeed.

in africa, where i stayed for 2 months, there is no entrepreneurism (where i lived) in the culture, business is frowned upon, people are born into their position, etc. the only way to be successful is corruption.

in canada, none of the above strategies are culturally acceptable (even entrepreneurism is rarely seen). the best way to succeed in canada is through connections (i.e. a job/contracts with the government).

once you come to terms with the above, you can fashion a winning strategy that will help you capitalize on your skills and on opportunity. using the wrong strategy, in my opinion, will make it very hard to achieve anything.

sorry, that's not positive thinking... but it is realism.

Hi all:

Chandresh's post made for very interesting reading. I would merely add on to what other members have written;however I am reminded of this saying which I was taught years back at school:

"We sow our thoughts and reap our habits;
We sow our habits and reap our character;
We sow our character and reap our destiny;
We sow our destiny and reap our fortune."


So if we analyze this deeply, ultimately, it also comes down to good character formation and good habits which leads to positive,vibrant and energetic results leading to what we call"success".Again success has to be defined individualistically and may not always be the same meaning for everyone. "To each his own"

Good food for mind.
I would just like to add that for a person to be successful , first one has to have a goal. When one has the goal, he can hire intelligence , he can be deligent too and right opportunity or u call luck can strike.

But, first he should know what he wants to do? Here comes, vision, ideas or dream. So for me goal is the first step to success. And once we achieve that goal, we become successful ourself.

Another thing which i believe is that what seems success to me doesn't mean that other's see me as successful. However, we should first believe in ourself rather then people measure our success.

Then comes attitude i.e positive attitude as narrated by Mister India
