What a trip. A family's life destroyed by highly ambitious maid and equally ambitious attorney. Well..lets hope they all can move on from here.
THE DIPLOMAT 'DK' IS BACK...
There are a lot of opinions expressed and some are interesting to note. The u tube is cluttered with it and it is very difficult to select one for the CD audience.

There was this interesting debate on CNN-IBN involving Rajdeep, former High Commissioner and Karan Thapar.
While former HC declared that as per Vienna Conventions, what US did was wrong, Karan said that Devyani lied about the maid salary in her visa application. Both stuck to their stand. While Karan Thapar defended that the similar US diplomats/officials paid as per the wages prevailing locally, he did not think about how a Indian embassy employee can afford to pay 4500USD per month, when she herself cannot be earning that much. What Karan said was similar to that because USA had already written a letter as early as September that they are going to hit, they were justified in hitting and it was our mistake in not ducking.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Income was entered 4500 USD per month in the application form. It is neither Devyani's income nor Sangeeta's income. Apart from salary, Devyani has income from real estate holdings in India also. All this is mentioned in the indictment at justice.gov
Employment contract submitted to US embassy stated that Devyani will pay at least the minimum prevailing wage in New York. The contract satisfied all the US requirements without which Sangeeta would not have got the visa. Before the flight took from India, Devyani asked the maid to sign another contract which stated the wages would be Rs. 25,000 with Rs. 5,000 for overtime. This second contract, of course, was not submitted to US authorities and Devyani hoped somehow that she would get saved by this second contract.
It is a clear case of visa fraud. Also Sangeeta was paid the wages according to the second contract which was not submitted to US authorities.
In the election year to show that India can stand up to US, Indian government has gone overboard to protect a guilty IFS official who knowingly and willingly broke US laws to enjoy a great Indian privilege called full-time house maid.

Hers was a petty "crime" that did not merit getting her anus poked by overzealous personnel(at the behest of State Dept). They could have expelled her. Let the Americans try this stunt on Chinese diplomats.
There should be reciprocity in treatment of American consular officials for crimes committed in India. Let us poke their posteriors for petty crimes as well.
American media offensive is in full swing in India and all the compromised morons are batting for them.
