Unusual for a bureaucrat, the kind of photographs of the victim diplomat, as appearing in the news channels, made us wonder whether she was IFS or looking for a Bollywood entry.

YES ramar2005. She is beautiful. If I been in a position of NY Court Judge, I will let her go without charges !!!!!!!

That's the problem, someone else is and they look at the problem differently. Better to keep a low profile in a distant land.

Meanwhile, happened to read about the first hand account of another diplomat who became victim of a similar scam rolled out by another servant maid chasing her dollar dreams.

Not that the US authorities are naive to believe the sob stories of the servants, who go missing only with the intention to settle down permanently in USA. They seem to be sadistic. More you point out, more they will cling to the rule book.

I don't think so, Sadism in public is not part of the US culture, there could be political agenda (perhaps the Attorney General is trying to establish his credibility) and wolves in India are trying to capitalize the situation to their best.

Where were all these folks with George Fernandos and APJ were harassed.

We consider our guests equivalent to God, Aththi Devo Bhava, especially the whites. But now we are withdrawing the special ID passes given to American embassy diplomats and consular staff. We have also removed the special barricade which were hindrance to traffic. Now the USA may understand.

The former Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Satyabrata Pal has written an enlightening article as to why USA is wrong on the issue.

Why would US apologize? This issue is not related to official work done in the consulate by Devyani.

Indian media will never say completely what the charges are and what Devyani supposedly did.

If the issue is wage dispute, Devyani can show that the maid was paid at least minimum US wages electronically or by cheque but Indian media reports suggest that maid was paid by cash for the amount over Rs. 25-30,000.

The US Department of Justice press release is here that details the charges laid by UShttp://www.justice.gov/usao/nys/pressreleases/December13/KhobragadeArrestPR/Khobragade,%20Devyani%20Complaint.pdf" target="_blank">

We really wonder whether the USA Government handled the issue correctly. How can it just be a "Wage Dispute" or an "individual" alone not following the USA rules?

Does it not have international ramifications?

Does the USA accepts same arguments it puts forth when it takes out its own countrymen from outside countries, even if they commit murders.

How can it "evacuate" the maid's family members from India?

Are we running a democratically elected government or an Idi Amin government to warrant such an action on the part of the USA?

If the US Government really wants the embassies to treat the servant maids they bring along with them properly, why pick just on one embassy official belonging to one country?

Is there no other servant maid working for embassy officials (of different countries) apart from for Devyani's. Are all of them treated and paid correctly?

Recently, the Saudian Arabian Government handled the issue of workers from other countries staying illegally and working in their country in a more matured and humanitarian manner. They gave a definite deadline to all such workers beyond which date action would be taken.

Shouldn't the enlightened and democratic USA, follow a similar procedure of informing all the embassies and if necessary warning once again?

Unfortunately, this greatest nation failed to show the maturity of a Saudi Arabia ridiculed by the Western media to be steeped in religious and medieval laws.

But people in the West and their media waste no opportunity to make fun of the Muslim countries of the Middle East.

Again unfortunately our people too do not have the time to study the issue as it is getting late for them to go and stand in the the local embassy queue for a US Visa. Or the inclination, as they are biased for their near and dear ones are well entrenched in the USA. They do not want to say or do anything that may affect their interests.
