Traditional Land Line.

To ensure that you don't loose your number, don't cancel your existing service. Just ask the new provider to take over. Last year I switched from Bell to Primus and this year from Promus to Teksavvy. On both occassions no notice given to the existing provider. Just asked the new provider to take over.

I've also switched my cell from Rogers to WIND. The only downside was Rogers charged me for one month in lieu of the cancellation notice.

Any word on Acanac services ?

Their $28.95 plan seems interesting....
Unlimited bandwidth..... 6mbps/1mbps speed....
+ free home phone services.

http://acanac.com/DSL.html

Thanks

Keep in mind the rate of $28.95 / month is only for the 1st year and you have to prepay. 2nd year onwards it's upto $33.95 / month.

From what I've heard, is Acanac servie is good.

Another cons with Acanac is that if you do not have a home phone line they will charge you $8/mo for a dry loop ...

Bell does not charge this even if you do not have a home phone line .

Having said that Acanac is good for heavy users but relies on Bell's service staff ie if something goes wrong , and it is with in the house , you will have to pay for the call .

Thank you Fido and Sudesh..... like always you are a wonderful help....

Regarding dry loop, i think i read somewhere that they are offering free dry loop - special offer.....
As for the service call, yes that might be an issue if something goes wrong with your house wiring....

SS thanks for sharing the Primus stuff, it is an eye opener.

Teksavvy is claiming there is no cable TV offering in my area, only DSL. Max limit is 5M. They also used the word "upto" 5M, I am a bit concerned about that. 75$ modem also required for this setup. No activation fee.

Any Satellite TV suggestions?

For the DSL, Primus told me upto 7M, but the max I got was around 4.25M. Teksavvy said upto 5M and the max l'm getting is still 4.25M. It depends on the line. I'm happy with the speed.

You can get a modem for cheaper than $75, unless if the provider is forcing you to buy one at that price.

What surprised me was inspire of the contract I had Primus still increased the rate.

Canada computers is offering modem for 74 plus one month free Teksavvy, so that's one option too! thx.
