Hit "Hamilton Ontario" in the 'get direction' and use the stickman to explore the locations where these Apartments are currently vacant. You will get a first hand opinion of the streets and localities prior to arrival and renting.
Not knowing how close to Burlington the job is, I will refrain from suggesting to you an Apartment there. But you sure should look into it also. But Burlington is an adjoining city to Hamilton as you can see it from the map.
http://www.efforttrust.com/apt-comm.html These people rent a few higher end apartments and because of the starting of the University session, I am afraid that they all have been taken already. You will have to inquire about its availability with them.

Kijiji :
http://hamilton.kijiji.ca/f-housing-apartments-for-rent-W0QQCatIdZ37 They do provide you with additional pictures of the place they want to rent and you will have a better idea as to what it looks like prior to renting and seeing it in person.
But before you rent one, you MUST take a trip through that area and also a proper look into the place that you are renting and the renter or its representative and obtain the conditions for rentals.
There have been recent postings about the pests in some of these apartments and hence pay close attention to the problems that have surfaced in recent times. Get the same in writing from the landlord prior to your renting the place.
Knowi8ng where the major office locations are, I am sure you will find a very nice apartment within a radius of 10 kilometers. Expect to pay a rent of $1000 or less for a Two BR place. If you have transportation, the daily rentals will cost you under $100/month in town, for parking.

If you are using the buses for any reason have the correct fare handy. Or buy your tickets in bulk at any variety store near by.
