Minor correction.
"Jaane Bhi.." was a box-office flop. It gained popularity only after it was shown on DD and on channels. It can be called a "cult movie". It is a favourite among netizen, but I doubt if it is popular among "masses" (The "jhoomri talaiyya" types)
Same with "Gods must be crazy". It has a cult following, but it is not all time hit

IMO, movies like Sholay, AAA, all Hrishikesh Mukherjee movies, Angoor etc. will appear in everybody's list.
I dont know abt being a hit or not.

I think you are missing my point, i clearly stated that share your best movies which YOU think, doesn't matter its called a "cult movie" or (The "jhoomri talaiyya" types). IMO i liked those above movies which i would like to see again if i get a chance.
and important thing is it is not necessary that my choice and your choice should be the same........right
.i liked old movie DOSTI too - Songs was really nice on this movie.
Jaane bhee do Yaaron is an excellent movie , perhaps the best in Indian comedy ... the best of actors - Naseiruddin Shah , Pankaj Kapur , Om Puri & above all Satish Shah .... I wonder if any other flick comes close ...
I think it was a super hit even 20 yrs back as the video cassette was hugely popular even @ that time !!

I think that this can be reworded to say which movie could you watch several times without getting bored.
My list would be
- A few good men. Maybe Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson's best performance ever
- Scent of a woman - Al Pacino's best performance
- Trishul - Best dialogues ever
- Sholay - No need to mention any criteria
- Avatar - Magical special effects
