We checked with the Toronto Parks and this is what they had to say :

If you are having a party of > 25 , you NEED a permit which assures you advance booking ... This costs non refundable $80/- .. and you can have the shelter , play ground area and other picnic area .

If on the other hand , if the party < 25 members , you DO NOT need a permit and its on a first come first served basis ...

But there can be no heating equipment as it can be a fire hazard .

W/o heating , Indian curry dishes would not be good ..... So we might have to consider the Community Center option .... which prompts me to ask :

How does the community center option work ? Are there any community halls that can be rented out , If yes , what are rates and how can we find more about them ...

Please advise and Thanks ...

I have been to one such party at Buffler park. They had same arrangement just like you said. Candles under the food tray. They have covered all around the utensiles with aluminum foils so that wind should not blow away the candles. Antone could not even notice that they were candles.

You need to go to community centre close to your home and check those. These community centres have rooms for different size of gathering.

Thanks for the responses ... Since the event is mid September we are having second thoughts on having it outdoors with the potnetial of the weather becoming cooler ....

Coming back to the other options - community halls and recreation centers ...... Is anyone aware of community halls which can be rented out in Mississauga / Etobicoke ?

How much do these community halls charge ? Are there any temples also which rent out halls for Birthday parties and if yes , how much would they charge ?

The idea is to get the food catered from outside and use the place for one evening ... Appreciate inputs .

In Mississauga, all community centres have halls to rent. You need to go to community centre and check about the size of halls. Some halls are given on hourly basis and some other are on day basis. If you are planning to have party in mid-september, then you may be out of luck at most of community centres in Mississauga. The places are booked 3-5 months in advance specially when we are approaching fall and winter season. You need to rush and call city of mississauga about the availability. Booking can be done on phone.
