Hi,
We are a family (2 kids+mum n dad) from Dubai and have just recently got r passports stamped. We had initially planned to make an entry in September this year but my husband has been made redundant at his work place. If he is not able to find another job soon, we should be making our entry to Canada in April this year.

We have been visiting the links suggested on this site and else where but would appreciate any advice, suggestions from people who have recently moved. Also some of the links have information from 2003, so any new sites apart from Canadiandesi which would be helpful for newcomers like us before we make the move would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Gopal Pai

U mentioned "Please carry as much money as possible to survive without job for atleast 6 months"

how much money do u think will be sufficient for a family of 4 (couple+ 2 kids) for initial stay in canada for about 6 months

Anyway, i am planning to move in end of August 2010

please advise???

RENT 1 BR PER MONTH 750
GROCERIES PER MONTH 500
MISCELLENOUS 200
TELEPHONE & INTERNET 100
TTC PASS FOR 2 PERSON 250
-------
1800
====

I would advise you to take $2000 pm and for six months 12000/- mind you, I have not taken into account any luxury items. Initially you will require small things like spoon, plates etc etc so, initial expenses for groceries will be $1000 for two months. so, assume $15000/- for six months. We had driving expenses also. Initial G1 test $ 80 five to six classes on the road $ 25 each another $150/- G2 exam fees $180/- every time. My husband got confused on intersection so, passed in second attmept so he paid $180 again. He took additional 3-4 classes near intersection so, $25*4 = 100. so, he spent approx 700 for driving.

for upgradation and certification - 3000 (additional exps expected 2000/-)

so, please if you wish to do all these things then total expenses will be $21000 and still there is no guarantee that, you will get job till economy improves. Even if you get good salaried job then, too, you will have to pay 35% tax.

Thanks Cmanyam, for offering your number, will surely call this week.We need to know if its cheaper to carry stuff from here or buy things from scratch, send stuff from here or from India, I have checked out links to places to stay when you initially land but would appreciate personal experiences from people who did not stay with relatives/ friends. Looking at all the threads on jobs or the lack of it, my husband is also deliberating going alone and we follow later. Is the thermal winter wear available here in UAE sufficient or do we need to buy heavy wollen clothes as its still winter there. Since you have made your first landing, you would be in a better position to answer these queries as well.

Thanks in advnce

hi nola

We need to know if its cheaper to carry stuff from here or buy things from scratch,

smilie(':(');In my view it is better to buy necessary thing over there is better.

send stuff from here or from India,

smilie(':)');I dont see any thing you need except some kitchen items and spices may be required while you land.

I have checked out links to places to stay when you initially land but would appreciate personal experiences from people who did not stay with relatives/ friends.

smilie(':)');Just comunicate with CD clasifieds and get idea about what kind of option available. I am doing that same now as i am going back in march to toronto

Looking at all the threads on jobs or the lack of it, my husband is also deliberating going alone and we follow later.

smilie(':)');It will be your own decision as it depends on your job profile and luck.

Is the thermal winter wear available here in UAE sufficient or do we need to buy heavy wollen clothes as its still winter there.

smilie(':)');That will be enough for initial time then you can buy things which are required in peak winter canada.

regards
cmanyam
