Agree with both the posters. Danny Boyle has tried to cram everything that is bad in India in one movie. I wasn't impressed by movie either. It is OK, not a masterpiece. Perhaps the "gora logs" get kick out of watching a negative view of third world country and gives a comfort that they are in a "better place"

BTW, putting Gadar and award in same sentence is an oxymoron, unless it is a Razzie award.
Mother India was shortlisted in Oscars for best foreign film category, but could not win the trophy.

Can we get an objective view of the movie? It has taken the most mundane, darned theme and made it into a BRILLIANT flick with full of twists and turns. That is quintessential movie-making. Which is why it got the awards...

We are sitting outside India and discussing how great it that the movie won so many awards.
Check this out.
CNN has a news article on their Web-Site on their main section saying the movie won so many awards and praising the movie.
But our India's big Newpapers Hindustan Times and Time of India do not talk much about it on their Web-Site - not easily visible. They have no mention about it unless you closely look into the smaller sections.
Looks like its not a big thing for the Indians back home.
The movie is not released in India yet.

On a serious note, has anyone here read Q and A? I passed on it, now I realize it wasn't a good decision.
A very well made movie that keeps you glued to the seats till the very last scene. I would have been very disappointed if it didn't win all those awards, am waiting for the Academy Awards now.

I personally have not read the book. But I wish I did in retrospect just like you.
I was in the habit of reading a book on which a movie was based before I watched the movie.
For example :
The Green Mile
Angela's Ashes
The Beach
Not a long list and not a great collection but that was when I had time. I know I am forgetting a few more...
