Incredible Achievement by any yardstick!

Hopefully his inexperience can be overcome by his considerable intellect. Time will tell.

I think, apart from the media, race had a big part to do with his victory....especially with the African-Americans. However, it's to Obama's credit that he could reach out to others too and that's what earned him his victory.

A huge +ve example for all the minorities the world over and especially in America.
I was watching the coverage and one poem/thought by a viewer probably sums it up best.

"Parks sat so King could walk, King walked so Obama could run, Obama ran so we can fly."

Another thing to his and his campaign's credit - while the whole Media and the Electorate kept singing the 'Black and White' racists tune, never once did he actively campaign as a 'black' guy appealing to the coloured voters - that earned him lot of respect from all over - not just the blacks. I hope he is able to keep the same balance while in White House.

It is indeed going to be the toughest 1st term for any President and with his inexperience - the risk is higher, but hopefully he can change the course of American economy with some fresh thinking...

Good luck to Obama and US...

Hiren

I am divided on the race issue.
On one hand, it appears that race must have had a big part to play in his victory.
This is evidenced by the large number of African Americans who registered to vote this time and the good turnout numbers.

On the other hand, Obama had very poor results in those areas that have the largest African American populations.
Georgia and Mississippi are the best examples, and Florida was close too.
McCain won hands down in both these states.

There is also the CNN demographics poll that claims that among both race-driven and race-agnostic voters, Obama was the preferred candidate by a 60/40 ratio.

It is obvious that many whites have voted for Obama because he won the North Eastern belt hands down.
At the same time, not all blacks have voted for him either.
A sizeable number of blacks have voted McCain as well.

Despite of everything HE won. Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. Now it doesn't matter who won the popular vote, minorities vote etc. The end result is 'Obama is President elect'. This is truly historic.

The iceman cometh! :)

Watched his speech yesterday and boy! Now THAT is composure in such an incredibly exciting/historic situation. The guy's a magnificent speaker and extraordinarily articulate.

He will undergo increased scrutiny owing to his inexperience, race and the difficult economic times. I think and hope he's up to the job, the promise is definitely there. The world needs him!

Maybe even Bill Clinton
He'll have a rollickin' time with the lady leaders of the world.
First one who comes to mind is the German boss...
