What we are witnessing is complete brainwash of the electorate by the Media. Have you ever heard a single popular media article complementing or any celebrity endorsing McCain or Sarah Palin (except her looks!). All we see is continued endorsement by Media and celebrities for Obama - yet as of this morning he leads just by 6% over McCain. Given the overwhelming popularity of Obama amoung yongsters, Media and celebrities, IMO, there should have been atleast 20% lead by today (election eve). With so much Hype and record spending on the campaign, this lead is actually embarassingly poor for Obama's campaign.
I am no fan of McCain, but believe he is losing (as per media reports) just because of GWB's poor ratings. Again IMO, his economic policy of reducing spending during turbulent economic times is better than Obama's policy of higher spending, but McCain's history of flip flop renders him unreliable for his words.
Guptaji, can you please refrain from posting that picture of Hillary and Obama in 'divine' setting? It is in poor taste and insulting.

I dont think Obama(inexperience) should be prez, neither does McCain(age) or Palin(who could be...given McCains age).
Obama does have charisma but his policies(or 'solutions') sound hollow and destructive. Well, lack of charisma did not hurt Bushs chance at the presidency. So abundance of the same should not be a negative thing either.
McCains choice of running mate though a resounding hit with the grassroot republicans(thats why the polls are so tight), leaves much to be desired...well if an inexperienced senator can be a pres then a little more experienced gov could also work?
Its like choosing between devil and the deep sea any which way you cut it.
Looking at the Americans choices...we Canadians should count ourselves lucky.
Anyway hats of to Obama if he pulls it. He'll have beaten the 2 biggest political powers in the USA...the republicans and the Clintons.

Obama is a gifted public speaker and has excellent presenation skills. He is always calm and composed and and exudes tremendous confidence. but isn't that we look for in a candidate in North America? To hell with your track record. Like in an interview where the judgement is formed within first five minutes based on how you present yourselves, Liberal media had chosen him long back and tomorrow he would be President designate of most powerful country in the world. He must have studied Lalu closely who , with his rustic humour, kept illiterate mass of Biharis spell bound for many years.Well most Americans are no different in "literacy" except their mother tongue is English and skin white but IQ same as illiterate Biharis. (Please do not jump on me. I am not calling all Biharis illiterate. Just referring to those who are literally illiterate). Like Lalu, he has promised many things which he will not be able to keep. E.g. revising NAFTA treaty (not practical) or providing health insurance on same basis as Congressmen (impossibly costly) or withdrawing from Iraq within 6 months (outright pandering to Left but practically impossible).
We, in North America are so unfortunate that when we wanted a Clinton to be in office, we will be stuck with a Liberal for next 4 years. Obama is most lucky guy. Financial crisis happened just at the right time for him. Had it happened a couple of months before, Hillary would have easily outclassed him or a couple of months after then John-Sara team would have probably defeated him. I believe he is immensely blessed and who can fight one who is CHOSEN!
Agreed - Obama is an icon created solely by the media.
Both McCain and Obama know in their heart of hearts that the situation in the US (and its wars in Afghanistan and Iraq) are bad situations and there is no easy way out.
Most likely, taxes will rise but none of the candidates want to admit it.
Obama has no clear policy, no clear direction.
He is basically selling "hope", and he has admitted this many times.
His basic rhetoric is "vote for hope".
Essentially what he is saying is that - "I haven't the foggiest clue what to do, but let me be president".
At the same time, I believe the Democrat campaign machinery has functioned very well this time.
Traditionally, the conservative campaign machinery is much, much more efficient and brutal as we saw in both 2000 and 2004 with GWB.
They control key radio/TV stations like Fox, control key public speakers (Sean Hannity, Rush, etc.) and of course have deep pockets with the arms, guns and extreme right lobbies.
2004 was a classic case - GWB's ratings before the campaigning began was in the dumps.
They could find nothing against John Kerry - a decorated war hero (vs GWB a deserter).
So they made up this whole shebang about Kerry being a flip-flopper.
They dug up his statements, speeches and voting record going back 20 years and manipulated it to prove to the public that he is a flip-flopper on all key issues (esp. national security) and is not fit to be president.
That staregy worked like a charm - GWB won by a fair margin.
Well, guess what, it is now payback time.
The democrats have run the campaign on three key messages -
- McCain is the same as GWB.
Like the conservatives in 2004, they created this whole impression that voting for McCain is the same as GWB.
I disagree completely, but apparently the US public is buying that story.
- Strategically downplaying the color issue.
Never openly playing to it, but always keeping it alive in the background.
Very Rasputin-ian strategy.
McCain is caught between the rock and the hard place.
He can't ignore the color issue, but can't speak to it either.
- Selling hope.
This is the biggest bull crap I have ever seen in any election campaign.
This dude has no clue what he's gonna do.
As the saying goes, "he that lives on hope will die hungry".
Regardless of who wins the vote tonight, I don't think it bodes well for the world situation in general.

If one is to believe the hard-liners, if Obama wins there will be no rest until he meets the same fate as Martin Luther King or Bob Kennedy in the same year.
JFK met that fate a few years earlier.
Supposedly they also foiled such an attempt a couple of weeks ago.
But I am all for the path started by Abe's manumission and for King's dream, no matter the ultimate fate of that individual.It will set the path for more such future leaders.
And maybe an ABCD in the White House finally.
Right now I am rooting for Obama.
Personally I don't think the prez runs the US. It's everybody else behind the scenes. I could be wrong though.

Well, as he himself said, the work actually begins now.
Once the party is over, he will have to face the realities.
Let's see what the next 6 months have in store.
He has made a lot of promises, from health care to economy to foreign policy changes.
Let's see how he delivers.
