NOT because desis do not get a household income over 200k - it is because either they do not visit sites like CD or they do it only to read, not to contribute - just a general observation and not 100% correct!

... some may want to give back and share experiences. Moreover, I think there are many desis here in the over 150k group but have not responded out of modesty.

I agree with chandresh. I personally know many desis, who have trucking business, banquet halls whose monthly income is more than yearly income of many. Some of them even do not know about Canadian desi webiste or even worse (how to use a computer) .

Volatility is what that will prevent the high bracket earners to comment.

You are correct if you assume fixed salaried income working FT.
However, people in the > 200K/year range are most likely not fixed income salaried FT workers.
They are most likely business owners and/or passive income earners like "spaceman" said in the post above.

check out Sarabjit Marwah and Mohamed Nadir. Both are full time employed.

But I'll go with you that the majority earning more than 200K are probably self-employed or business owners.

And my educated guess is that majority isn't confined to just Desis, it's for all communities incl. those of Italian , Greek, Scotish, Irish etc descent...

Interestingly enough though during the stock market heydays, some business development managers of major companies whose remuneration was made up of salary plus commission plus bonus hit the 200K mark, commissions being higher than salaries.

The East Indian community in Canada

Average incomes of the East Indian community and overall Canadian population, by age group and sex, 2000

Canadian adults of East Indian origin receive more of their income from earnings6 than the overall population. In 2000, Canadians of East Indian origin aged 15 and over said that 85% of their income came from earnings, compared with 77% for all Canadian adults.

In contrast, Canadians of East Indian origin receive a smaller proportion of their total income from government transfer programs than other people. In 2000, 9% of the income of people of East Indian origin aged 15 and over came from government transfers, while the average for all Canadian adults was 12%.

I know earning >200K is a big deal for fixed salaried income working FT, but the original question is about household income, not necessarily individual's income.
