If u r content and happy, do things that u like, IMO that is success, my friend. Don't bother what others think of u. If they think low of u, then their thinking is small and those people are small.

Each and every human being has their own definition of 'successful' . What is yours, try to read your own mind and find out the answer first.
Then do what you need to do to reach that goal that you have set up for yourself. Do research on the subject, call or go to places, join seminars, then after gathering all info, setup a plan for yourself and work on that 'one step at a time'.
You will find that in your own eyes 'you are successful' when you meet your own goal.

What is your definition for success?
If you have Dhirubhai in mind – I will say learn to manipulate and street smart.
If you have Gandhi in mind – you know by this time what you should learn.
I think ( 905 desi and Sb already said)one should define what is success to him . A year ago, one of my friends said that you are a part of the success of your father, mother, brothers,sisters,sons, daughters, friends, organization you work for. Unfortunately many Bad don’t acknowledge, while some Good don’t accept.
I see in this website, getting a good job, buying a house ,building up some bank balance ,driving some cars are termed as success., because many of us have come here for these things of so-called comforts, and showoff
So called success has also some drawbacks which only can be felt by the celebrities such as Sachin/sharuk/amitab , canot go and buy an ice cream at the corner shop . Any how we are too far to there./ ongoor katta hai
I guess ,we need to dream long term goals while executing the short-term things with perfection .
It is the news papers who want the successful people ,their tales ,their scandals to sell. As a lion doesn’t know that he is not a man-eater , these successful people doesn’t know what is a success until they were told that they succeeded in such and such things.
if there is any measuring stick for happiness /contentment ,the man reached the highest rank on it, obviously is the most successful.
Knowing our core competence, courage to give-up other things to achieve perfection in that line, having support or ability to convince your parents/spouse /children/peers and or our ability to reciprocate them , I think will lead to success.
