I would like to bring this to Desis Attention..

Recently I went to this place called " The Nilgiris" at Markham Road, Scarborough , a popular take-out Place with a small Dine-in section. I ordered a Dish and noticed couple of Plastic strings in the Dish. On top of that , there was Human hair in the side dish also..

I thought I could bring this to the owner's attention. The lady came to my table, looked at the plastic strings, grabbed the plate and threw it in the Bin. Then she came over to me and asked me where is the String ? to which I replied in the Bin.. She was so much in denial that she started to yell and scream and threatened me to get thrown out of the Restaurant because I complained.

I firmly told her that she can't throw me out because of a complaint, paid the money in full and walked out. I have filed a complaint with the City authorities
and they are investigating in this matter. I believe there were couple of complaints abt food quality and Hygiene abt the same place.

I am writing this as many of our fellow cds might be going here with their families and just wanted to alert them.

Take care.

Tamtru,
I am not able to understand your post fully.
What are these "Plastic strings". Are they "strings" that are used to bead "beads" .
You made the first mistake of paying for the dish, thereby acknowledging that you were partially at fault. Most establishments (Even Desi ones) do acknowledge their mistakes and try to rectify it. You should have stood firm in not paying for the dish and / or requesting a replacement if you wanted to pay for it, because of the fact that they lady of the shop was the one who grabbed it and threw it in to the garbage.
I donot live around that area but I shall send a mass e-mai l to my desi friends asking them to be careful of that establishments.

In plain language thin plastic wires ..

Abt Payment - I agreed to pay though I said ethically they shouldn't be charging me for which she said to pay half as I found the wires only after eating half the meal !! I was shocked when I realised that she is ready to lose a customer for a Dollar !! when in today's world Businesses spend so much money to retain customers !!

Sadly, I haven't found this to be the case in Canada. 80% of businesses I've dealt with in the past 3 years have been Rude, Indifferent & plain disinterested in treating their customers well. It feels like the business is doing you a favour, and not the other way around.

Some Examples:

1. BMW Dealership selling me a car with 2 keys, one of which is not the right one - they claim it's not their problem and I need to buy a new key for $250.

2. Rogers Video charging me $6 a month a mythical second box, that even they acknowledge doesn't exist, but after 2 years of constant tug-o-war, are not willing to correct.

3. Telus selling me a phone with a sepcial offer of a $75 Futureshop Giftcard. Phone arrived in 1 week, Gift card took 4 months and countless e-mails, phone calls & threats to customer service. Their explanation: Futureshop doesn't have Gift Cards to give them.

4. Purolator driver arranges to meet with me at 9:30 AM to deliver a package. Shows up at 11 AM. In the meanwhile, several calls to the station are met with an indifferent attitude.

The list is endless but the common theme to all cases - NOT ONE SINGLE APOLOGY from anybody for making a mistake.

Oh, and did I mention that you can never take the word of a customer service agent for anything? Having an issue? Multiple calls to customer service can and do result in multiple (and often conflicting) answers.

I've yet to experience the "Friendly Customer Service" & "Customer is King" factor in Canada, that I once took for granted in the United States.

Why can't Canadian businesses provide atleast the same level of customer services as the US, when they are charging almost double the prices than their American contemporaries?
