The Sanjaya phenomenon can be attributed to three factors -

1) The teenage girls who find him so chweet
2) The gay community because of his androgynous and effete demeanour
3) Shock jock Howard Stern and sites such as votefortheworst.com, who are exhorting voters to elect a 'besura' idol

What has also surprised me is that despite being half-Indian(his mom is white), Sanjaya is more desi looking than most 'pure' desis
