I don’t how people define "Education". To me education is overall development like Character, academic, sports, manners etc. If you topper but you have bad character - does mean that person is educated? For me I don’t believe so. For my son getting the top marks is not important. To me my son should me able to communicate well, have good character, well mannered.
There are many toppers at academic level but don’t know how to make a decent living. There are many guys who get good education is selfish who will kick out there parents from home.
So it up to the parents who can guide their son/daughters to be. If you show them proper direction and do the right thing they will become a good citizen.

I never knew there are exemptions from Marathi (or other local langauages in other states), considering the shiv sena and others objections. How hard it is to get admission in these type of school, and what is the approximate cost per child any inputs. I heard in Bombay there are some schools which charge 1 lac per month, I hope these are not one of them

1. What about those people that cannot afford to put their children into the top schools?
2. Will that Indian educated child fit in here? will they have good friends when they return to Canada - because they have not gotten to know other children in their canadian neighborhoods through school?
3.Sorry to ask but what is the benefit of having great penmanship? How does that make one better educated?
4. Last - what about good schools in Canada ie/ Private schools or highly rated public schools? have you tried those schools before deciding that Indian schools are better?
None of my questions are meant to be sarcastic. Just curious.
(now here I am lampooning). At the same time, so to speak, I am going to the college SAA show at Hershey Centre this Saturday. Anybody else going? Promises to be a blast!I host poker and teen patti nights at my place. Would you care to join?
I also give several guest lectures in numerous high schools and colleges. Yeah, I am basing my judgement on several schools and students I know here but only a few schools and students I know in India and those are the ones I mentioned. I wouldn't know anything about schools in Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, though I am sure they are just as good or even better than the ones I mentioned.Quote:

Some of my friends who have children with Canadian passports studying in Mumbai have been exempt from Marathi but not from Hindi and they go to the same schools as the Indian passport holders.

I know in Maharashtra there is exemption from Marathi if you opt for it, provided you hold a foreign passport. I know too many children in this situation.
Can't say for the other States.
Neither Bishop's nor St Helena's charge Rs 1 lac a month. Only a few hundred rupees.
'Enrollment fees' can range from Rs. 15,000- Rs 25,000.One time 'fee' only. You can be lucky and get in w/o enollment fee.
Mumbai- can't say. can find out and let you know. Any others on the board can tell us?
Hi MR,
Please do not misinterpret my previous post in anyway. All in good spirited humour. If you would rather not, I will refrain next time around.
Regarding children coming back to Canada from India-I know a couple who came to Canada in the late 90's, and after a year sent their daughter of 7 back to India to the maternal grandparents so they could get settled here and stand on their feet, so to speak. After 5 years when they were well settled they called their daughter back and she went to middle school here. She adapted real well to her new environment and cultivated new friendships and is in the groove of things here. The girl is pursuing an IB program now and has no issues of her parents ever sending her back to India to study. She is thankful of it and says she ahs developed a greater bond with them because of that and holds no grudge. As an added bonus she says- I can read, write and speak Hindi better than all my other friends. And guess what, she also tops in French in her class.
Children adapt and adjust very well in general, so I think that concern is a non-issue at least from what I have observed. Oh there might be that odd one or two, but the same can be said the other way around-like being with your parents all the time and wind up not bonding with them later on in life.
But then it's all up to the parents. The above case does not apply to the OP though, so we may be digressing, but that's what discussion is all about sometimes- going off on a tangent sometimes exponentially.
Hi MR,
Since you've lived all your life in Canada, perhaps you can give us insights on the educational system in Canada.
On another thread you mentioned you have lived in 3 provinces. Did you also study in all 3?
It would make interesting reading for me and for many on the forum. Please also include college/univ study if any.
Can you read, write and speak Hindi or your mother tongue? Do you speak, read and write French with relative ease? Any other language? Say Telugu, Spanish, Konkan, Portuguese etc...
Much obliged,
P.S. The poker party invite is still on. I am in the GTA.
