Hi,

This website might be useful for new and old imigrants.

http://www.wes.org/ca/

A WES evaluation is your passport to education and employment. Whether you want to continue your education, seek professional licensing or employment in Canada, the WES evaluation makes sure that your international academic credentials are recognized.

The WES evaluation converts educational credentials from any country in the world into their Canadian equivalents. It describes each certificate, diploma or degree that you have earned and states its academic equivalency in Canada.

Success

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded. Bessie Stanley

WES evaluation for employment is a waste in my opinion for certain /many professions incl. mine. Many of my friends did it too and no employer looked at it. It may be useful for educational purposes like admission in a university.
I paid the $100 fee to do it 4 1/2 years back.
recently certain govt. sponsered agencies are willing to do it for newly arrived immigrants free of cost (the agency will bear the cost and claim it from the govt.).
Maybe CD members can share if WES evaluation or other evaluation was instrumental in enhancing the chances for professional employement in Canada.

Hi

It does help if you arent from a regulated profession :) as does a Careerbridge evaluation.
Careerbridge also a website, which allows you to search and apply for internships with well known Canadian employers.
Most of my friends who did a workshop with CFTPT-COSTI, went on to register with Careerbridge- a lot of them got coop/ internships with TD, RBC, Scotia, GE, City of Windsor, City of London, Remax, etc. A few went on to full time careers with the same employers, after their coops.
So, for those in non regulated professions, it does help.

TK, in your case, assuming that you are really what you claim to be, an archietect- thats a profession which is regulated in Canada.

A WES evaluation, if they did at all undertake to do one, wouldnt have worked as they are not competent to equate professional degrees- in which cases the holder has to go to relevant regulatory body.

Try and read up the Toronto Star- of yesterday which had a whole section dedicated to new immigrants- there are examples how WES and Careerbridge helps.

Cheers

Firstly it is not a good idea to start your topic off very old threads. You should have started a new topic.

You go through the complete requirements for both WES and University of Toronto CES for Ph.D. candidates and their timelines.

WES requires transcripts, which can be a pain to get it from universities in India unless you have someone there to followup regularly in India with the universities.

For immigration, a separate service is offered and it should be ordered if immigrating.

Try ICAS...they do not need transcripts from Universities if you search for ICAS WES on CD , you will come to other threads as well where this has been discussed .

Paid for WES evaluation when new to the country. Still biting dust somewhere in my paper records.

As others pointed out, unless you belong to a regulated profession or planning to study further, do not spend your hard earned money on these useless papers.
