Once you are told you are hired, donot rush to resign from your current job, no matter how desparate you are to leave your current job. Take a day or two to think over.

I was interviewed by one of the very global reputed company. There were few interviews i.e. few on the telephone from the guys in US and one in person interview. Almost all who interviewed me were desis.

After lot of salary negotiations he agreed to my salary number and said the next step would be to get a security clearence. The next day I got an e-mail from somebody in HR to complete the form for security clearence. I was not very happy with the salary as there was a lot of haggling so did not respond immediately. The third day interviewer called me. I thought he was going to tell me to complete the form ASAP. But to my astonishment, he said he found somebody else who was willing to work for less. He asked me he would still like to hire me if I accepted the lower salary. I refused.

Now, I donot think this is a general practice in this company as it is a global company. I have worked with folks from this company but may be the desi hiring manager just decided to go back on his word for less than $ 5k per year. Though when I narrated my experience to one of my friends. He said one of his friends was put in a big soup by another desi hiring manager from the same company. That guy had resigned from his current job and was told that his joining date was postphined by two more months. For the two months he was jobless. I did not followup the story if he was eventually hired or not.
