So if some body is working on the TN visa, what all options, benefit can one negotiate for with the US company. I have no idea what comes with the offer, just wanted to know any things I should be aware of or I should ask for. People must have done this before. Any help would be appreciated. for example: Are medical benefits included in the package or one has to buy it seperate.
Apart from negotiating on salary (or billrate if contract) you must ask about medical coverage. If you are going on a W2 basis (fulltime employment) you will most probably have access to employers medical coverage. Ask for details of the coverage including waiting period, your contribution, whether PPO/ HMO, etc.
If you are going on a contract basis you may not get medical coverage from employer but in most cases you may be offered the optiion of purchasing the same coverage at discounted group rates (check for the same details of coverage).
If you have to purchase your medical coverage individually in the US it is going to be very expensive so factor that in to your salary/ bill rate.
Do the same thing in negotiation as you would have done with Canadian employer. Don't feel obligated to give any concession due to your TN status.
Other than salary and bonuses, discuss vacation time, medical and dental insurance, retirement 401k benefits, stock options, flex hours, signing bonus, relocation expense, temporary housing and rental car for initial month or two, car and travel allowance, home office allowance, immigration lawyer expense, cell phone, laptop, printer, fax machine and any other equipment that may be required in your role.

If you want company to sponsor your GC.. this is the time to ask.. it's much simpler before you get hired and in some cases they can use their current recruiting effort towards that requirement for Ad.
Get as much cash salary as possible.. benefits don't mean for squat unless you are planning to stay for a long time.. Medical/Dental is non-negotiable normally.. you will get what you will get.. and for most good employers.. it will be definitely better than what you are used to in communist republic of Canada. If it's on contract they might give you option of cash in lieu of Coverage.. which is what you will have to decide on..
Another thing you can negotiate is relocation benefits.. but most would ask you to sign 1 yr repatriation agreement..
One cannot get employment based Green card on TN visa. To get green card one has to be on H1 Visa.

I know at least 2 ppl who have started GC while on TN.. only required thing is that you be on H1B at the time on adjustment of status..
Nothing in US GC forbids companies from sponsoring future employment GC for anyone outside/inside US..
Thank you so much guys for all the feedback, that was really really helpful. Now if company aggrees to sponsor for GC, how long does that usually take, does it take for ever?
