Hi,
I am planning to apply PR from US and I have fol
I am currently working in US on H1B and planning to apply for PR. A month ago, I got offer from company in canada, and got my work visa stamped in Los Angles. Said that, I am planning to join company in canada some time in Dec/Jan 2004.
Since I got a workpermit approved, I guess I can claim this to get additional points (10 points if I am correct).
While submitting the PR application, given these 3 options, which one should I select?
a) Do you have an offer letter approved by HRDC?
b) Are you currently working in Canada under a work permit?
though option b) sounds close, I only intenet to work some time in Dec/Jan 2004?
Please advice, and thanks in advance.
you cannot answer 'yes' to (b) if you are not working in Cda at time of application.
you have work permit, you are therefore approved by hrdc. you'll get the extra 10 pts.

My opinion on the issue is this.
To claim 10 points for arranged employment, one should have been working in Canada for at least 1 year on a temporary work permit. Or he should have a job offer approved by HRDC, do not hold a temporary work permit and plan to come to Canada only after the permanent resident visa is issued.
Hence, to my understanding, as you hold a temporary work permit, you are not eligible to claim your 10 points now but can claim it only after working in Canada for a year. It looks foolish but that seems to be the rule.
Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
