Hi, I have some DVD's (Canadian) and want to use my DVD burner to create DVD's/VCD's for India. How do I go about doing this? Please share your suggestions/ experience.

ps I'm new to this type of thing.

Assuming they are English movies they will be copy protected. However, there are plenty of free programs on the net that allow you to rip the content from the disc. You can then burn it onto a blank DVD using some software you have.

Even if you do rip it, there is still more work involved in getting all languages, special scenes etc burned onto the new disc. You will probably end up with a few coasters before you get it working, so have a few spare discs around

Also, the DVD player in India will have to be region free as DVDs sometimes pose problems even after being ripped.

Well, I have been ripping DVD for around a year now.

Easiest Method is as follows:

Softwares you will Need.

DVD Shrink ( Free Available )
NERO ( should be able to write DVD)

You might already know this. English movie DVD size are around 8 GB. You can't fit 8 GB data on 4.3 GB DVD+-R. You have 2 ways to go about doing this. You can copy the whole movie on 2 DVDR. Or you can compress the original DVD to fit on 1 DVDR.

Double layer DVDs which can hold upto 8.5 GB of data are available. Right now they are costlier. like around $20 for 3. But you can use them for copying.
