I have been observing desi kids for the last five yrs. Lot of them are very impersonal. The parents are ok, socialize with others. But what is the problem with the kids? I found out in many cases the moms are high handed (too dominating). Basically the kids are like robots who are programmed into being impersonal. I don’t get it. Is it the insecurity of the parents (moms)? Some moms are so control freaks.

As I have observed, South Indians are the worse (no offence, I am a South Indian too). North Indians a bit better. Irrespective of their education, the behaviour of the parents who have programmed their kids to be robots is the same. I am puzzled with these folks.

Dio,
the reasons may be less time spend by parents with kids and lack of playing outside due to extreme wheather conditions.

I am afraid, I don't quite understand what you are trying to say. Impersonal in like behaving in a detached manner with no emotions? The kids I have seen, south or north Indians, have been quite social.

When you say upbringing, do you mean they are being taught not to be social? Why would anyone do that?

Because the kids are brought in solitary confinement until 5-6 years. Even after they go to school not many people would socialize with them ( being desis )
Also such kids do not play much / mingle with others and gradually become impersonal

may be parent/kids live in 100% indian neighbour hood, always watch indian tv, speak indian language at home always, always go indian restaurant for lunch/dinner, feel scared if they get something from other communties,... means indian with $$. Those kids are not confident to go and do something outside that community.

Probably so. Some of the moms I have met are control freaks. What I dont get is that the moms want to have fun but their kids need to only mingle with those the mom recommends. Worst is that some of the kids I have come across only want to tag on to whites whereas moms want to tag on to desis, to be in the rat race.

One more observation. Some kids think that being born in Canada makes them great. Huh! Also wearing glasses and talking abt computer games makes them genius? I doubt it. But the moms think so.

After the term "ABCD", we have to come with a new term "CBCD" - Canadian born, Confused Desis. I know not everybody would be Canadian born.

I guess kids get to get confused with the Indian lifestyle & the lifestyle they encounter in their school/college, etc.

Thanks & regards.

Rajan.
