Like everyone has been saying...move on.

I used to work for a large Software organization in Toronto, the largest Canadian company (I'm willing to name it if the mods have no objection). One fine bright sunny day in February, around 150 member were fired... reason ... shortage of work. People with over 10 years of service, levels ranging from Directors to admin staff, all included. No one could do anything. They even checked with their lawyers, atleast that's what they told me.

Personally, I would warn folks to keep away from that organization, they have a history of hire & fire.

On another note, in that same orgn. we had a new SVP & in a staff meeting he started giving big talks. Later I talked to a colleague (a gora), and asked about his comments on that. This is what he said, They claim to hire the best people in the industry. After a few years they squeeze every drop of your skill & knowledge and then dump you.

Sorry for the long post.....

;)

sudesingh,

U hit the bullseye. What u r saying is 100% correct, at least u came out and said openly. Most desis dont do that, may be they are scared or there may be some other reason.

One has to read between the lines when a senior gora/gori speaks to a group of his/her staff. Rhetoric is common. When there is crunch such as decrease in profit, there will be lay offs. I am not talking about loss for the company, only decrease in profit (since that affects the stock price) would trigger lay offs.

This is how things work in North America. Desis need to understand and get Accustomed to it.

The longer the time spent with the company...the more rights you have( in theory).

http://www.gov.on.ca/lab/english/es/factsheets/fs_termination.html

Since you have been with the company less than 3 months...it may not be worth your efforts. According to the above links...they do not even have to give you a notice...so one weeks severance pay maybe generous in this specific instance.

Some info on negotiating a severance package

I know its difficult to think straight at times like this but it s probably a good time to ask for a reference letter from the employer, or if you can use them as a reference ...they maybe more willing to oblige to further ensure that you "go quietly" OR just out of guilt. Once they put it down on paper they may find it difficult to go back on their word(even if they want to) if/when they are on your reference list and contacted by a prospectve employer.
p.s: use this with tact... an experienced employer may not commit to a reference especially if they feel you are going to haul them to court for wrongful dismissal.

Maybe some of the above info can help others in similar situation now or in the future.
