Smiley, one should not generalize based on few news items. Dicrimination has many faces - what you consider discrimination is a question.
Untouchability is an extreme level of anti-human form of discrimation and not giving jobs to people of other race/cast is another.
I guess we are discussing the other case.
I personally don't have faced any discrimination. And there is no open discrimination anywhere in Canada.
Internally it might be. There was an article sometimes back on the statistics of government jobs and it was very clearly saying that the visible minorities have very less job compare to natives. Why it is so? The court ruled in case of Mr. Shiv against health Canada that he was not promoted because of his race (after fighting for 10 years).
So it does exists!

A Proud Indian Canadian
Discrimination according to me is existing and will be existing wherever there are migrants from other places ( like north indians in Mumbai) or immigrants like many of CD members.
What matters is how acculamatized one becomes to lessen the chances of discrimination . The reason I am saying this is I get to see people from India who ae definitely more skilled , but dont get visibility as compared to other co-workers( In this case people from other countries where the education system is a pittance than what we have back home).
I saw a tired desi guy being asked funny questions when he walked into a coffee house for a coffee. Big part of the problem of course lies with the attendant's who were just having a nice time at his expense but a minor part of the problem was also the fact that our man was not able to express the exact type of coffee he was looking for.
There will be some slight form of discrimination even in the best society in the world.
Does discrimination exist in Canada, probably in some isloated cases.
Is discrimination open and pampant ? Not at all .
Also, pls correct me if i am wrong but i dont think any other country outside india has so many indians elected to the parliament....BC even had a premier of indian origin.
it is easy to blame discrimination and racism as a cause for our own struggles, but actually i feel Canada remains one of the last few truly open amd multicultural societies in the world, where everyone feels at home and welcomed.
This is true for me.
May not be true for others, and thats ok .

What can be imagined, can be achieved.
doesn't discrimination exist everywhere?
however, if u let it get to u, it will, if u don't, it won't.

i am back
Yes, here in Canada discrimination does exist but it is hard to experience. Whereas in India one can easily feel it. However, the form and shape of discrimination in two countries is entirely dif. I do agree with the views expressed by GG.
