Hasni:
It is good that you raised up this issue.
The major discrimination for new immigrants is discrimination in job, colour of skin and religion. However, you should have an objective / golas and work towards it.
GTA is highly mixed and hence you should not expect too much discrimination. The area that you have selected for residences have many people from the middle east so schooling might be easy. However if you have selected areas like Kitchener / waterloo/ guelph (where immigrants are less), you will find more discrimination at schools due to race / colour and religion.
If you want to take precautions against it, see that you donot speak about religion outside your residence. Also do your children wear hajib or western cloths. Western cloths will make them to assimilate more into the society? How about you? Are you open minded or highly religious? As long as you do not try to preach your religion to the others, you will be Ok.
The essence it, keep it low, keep it to yourself and you will be fine. Canadians are generally very friendly (except when it comes to giving you a job) and if you also reciprocate their wishes, I donot see any problem for your children.
Job search is a whole different thing by itself. First your resume will be scrutinized based on your name (does not apply to IT / Finance or other specilized jobs) and then you will find a lot of problems in getting a job. But then that is another discussion.
All the best.

Dear friends, with due respect to all the religions,..Is it true that newly immigrated Muslims students when admitted to schools are discriminated initially. A friend of my wife has shared her experience saying that her kids were given quite hard time initially because of their association with a particular religion. Please comment.
I second Rajagopal.
Hasni:
Canada embarrassed greatest religion on the earth ... ie " Humanity". As a Canadian, I do follow it.
I requested you not to bring up these things into this forum.
Every where there will be things you like and things you don't. The choice to make that place as your home purely in your hands. ( of course that place also should give you a chance to let you in).
I do not know why exactly you have chosen Canada to move .... but you need to embrace Canada as it is .... if you want it make it as your home.
Let us talk less about religion stuff and think more about making Canada much more better place on the earth. Please let us know what you will be bringing to Canada. If you are an entrepreneur, can setup a business and create some employment for you and others ... I will be first person to give my support.
Please don't try to figure out the place before you have landed here.
There is discrimination everywhere, only relatively different. You are coming to a far better place, if middle east is the basis of your comparison.

its not just the kids that won't speak, but teachers also seem to be involved. That's what my wife's friend said. She said that teachers will make the new students expose to things that will hurt their religious feelings, make them dance, make them listen high volume music, make them watch objectionable videos, etc.
Further to what Gurram has said, your motive to move to Canada will also determine many things.
So what is your plan in Canada?
1. To educate your children upto university level and find jobs in the Gulf?
2. Will you be here full time?
3. What will be the role of your wife?
4. Does your family wear Hajib and eat only Hallal meat?
5. Will you be clean shaven and wear western cloths?
6. Will you allow your children to mingle with native Canadians?
7. Are you here to exploit max. money possible in Canada?
8. Will you be investing in Canada (on a house, businees etc..)
There are really personal question and you may choose not to answer them. But give a thought and come to your own decision.
Moderate muslims have nothing to fear in Canada. Canada will embrace them for the money and moderation that they bring. Anything else will be dealt by them duly.
Again I will be very clear. Unless you are in IT/ Finance, it will be very hard to get a job here, more so for the lack of jobs, discrimination of Asians/ africans and your religious affinity. That is an undisputable truth.
