As much as it is easy to run and hide from the "obscene" discussions you speak of, I am not sure if that works. Regardless, the only way to stop racial discussion is to expose it for what it is based on ideas and arguements. I am not sure this 'I know what is best for everyone moderator' approach is the best.

It is what it is.. I suppose.. and so is life..

What do you mean by "running and hiding from obscene discussions"???

So in your opinion, is it acceptable to have all kinds of obscene language and racial name-calling, and trolls posing under different ids etc..? I don't think that was the intention of Canadian Desi.

I, for one, have been immensely benefitted by this site - starting from my immigration process, job hunt, relocation, to shopping and services. I would hate to see the quality of this site detoriate because a few jokers think they can post all kinds of rubbish.

Why not keep this a constructive site and continue to have meaningful discussions about life in Canada instead of trying to find fault with moderators?

My posts arent about finding fault with the moderators but rather to question why certain 'policies' exist and what are the 'operating rules' for the site. Somehow.. just saying 'it is because we think it is' or 'if you dont like it.. leave' is at best a silly approach. Since the site.. and as you have said is suppose to talk about canada, I am not sure if you can be selective about what is discussed or only talk about 'comfortable' topics.

For you.. taking what is and living with it.. might be ok.. for me and perhaps many others on this site.. the least we can do is to question when things don't make sense to us. Aren't checks and balances a cornerstone of democracy.. and isnt canada a democratic country(most of the time).. and isnt this site about life in canada?

It seems the majority of members are liking what moderators are doing.

18000 members can't be wrong.

Despite all the policing, this is a popular site.

I, for one, like it. :)

I also thank the moderators for devoting so much of their time in this cause and being patient in reading through many of the posts they do not enjoy reading. :D

All in a good cause.

;)

No one said that 18,000 members are wrong. I am not sure why this discussion has taken a turn towards the efforts of the moderators. My issue has been with the generalization and value judgements that seem to be made by them. All I am saying is.. make sure everyone who visits the site knows the 'rules of engagement'.

I dont see the connection you are trying to make.. perhaps there is none..
oh well..
