Sorry, but I thought router as only a piece of hardware. The "service" is provided by the ISP, either your cable company or one of the many telecom companies. Isn't that correct?
Quote:That is possible, but is usually because of some hardware and/or configuration issue at the ISP end, and not because of the router per se.
The router can be purchased/rented by the customer from the ISP. ALternatively, it can also be purchased elsewhere, but I have heard that the ones bought elsewhere have sometimes caused issues.
Quote:The ISP - they will charge you a montly fee (usually $10) for providing you internet security.
Who is "they"?

You can buy your own router at a fraction of the cost, and control your own Internet access.

you can also use software based firewalls like
1. Microsoft Windows XP Firewall
2. Zone Alarm.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.
Zone Alarm is good - perhaps the best among the free software firewalls out there.
However, the built in Windows XP firewall is not good enough to provide complete protection.
Regardless, a software firewall always provides you after-the-fact.
A hardware firewall, on the other hand, provides complete protection making you "invisible" on the Internet.
Linksys, Cisco, D-Link, etc. are some common ones.
One benefit that a s/w firewall like Zone Alarm provides is protection going out, as well as coming in.
This ensures that no application can access the Internet without your explicit permission.
That can be a pain when you are trying to get some work done quickly, but is a good protection to have.
Therefore, for best all-round protection, is is best to have a combination of a hardware firewall (with built in NAT-ing) and a software firewall like Zone Alarm.

Hi
I wish to know that if I can apply for my family visa in Canada after I get PR card and after application can I return to India, while papers are bing processed in Canada.
In my application my family status is mentioned about my wife and daughter. However when I received letter from High Commission, I paid only for myself and got the visa. Know I am told for family visa I need to apply from Canada only.
So can you please advice. If return can I giving Indian mailing address or do I need to have a Canadian mailing address.
Thanks
