Hi,

Incident 1

Once I was in Walmart. One copuple came to us and said ..you looks like from India...we said yes...and then they started to talk like we are very good friends meeting after long time ...they chat for us with about 15 minutes and then that man said I am doing business..and that lady said I am beauty parlour ...and then they gave their card and ask us for my phone number and keep in touch and if we are intrested in doing part time business...they told us to meet again.....after sometime they called again home ....

Incident 2
Once I was at town center standing near stair and looking VCR spray...2 guy came to me and said that what is this I said this is head cleaner....and they start to chat exactly like incident #1 and then at the same time I remembered Incident 1 so I said ok then cu ...then they gave his card and ask for my phone number ...I did not give my phone number and I told him that I will call you...and I walked away quickly .

Incident # 3

My wife went to wallmart to apply for the job...Walmart do once a month I think this job applicaiton thing...and their one lady met my wife and said we also look for people who want work...and that lady took the phone number and after month or so , she called home and chat...now you know what kind of chat ...exactly like above 2 incident

Incident # 4

Yesterday I went to one another mall near my home, and there is one small store selling stuff like books...etc... and that guy started same thing as above incidents...... and he gave me one address ..he said if you want to earn $$ part-time goto x place where you will know how to do this business...this and that....

So now any Canadian desi know what this is ? or is anybody involved in this business ?

The answer is simple - they are part of a MLM (Multi-Level-Marketing) scam.
All they do all day long is hang out at such places like Wal*Mart, grocert stores and try to get friendly with other people.
After a while, they show their true colours - to recruit you into their marketing scheme.

They are everywhere - Quixstar, Amway, Herbal Life, Japan Life - the list never ends.

Tell them that you are not interested - sometimes politeness works, and sometimes you have to be blunt/rude.

I always tell them that my wife, myself and my kid all of us are students. So, we are not able to help in their business at present. Smile and walk away even that man tries to blabber something.

One of the "promises" that all these MLM people make is that you will become a millionaire in 1 or 2 years, if you follow their plan.
I have found two strategies to be effective -
One ask them how long they have been in the business.
Usually they will say 2 years or 3 years.
You ask them then why aren't you a millionaire by now?

Second, I sometimes tell them that I am already a millionaire.
I own a private plane, have a mansion on the Riveria, a house in the Bahamas and several offshore accounts.
Then I leave them with their mouth open....

None of them has ever asked me back then why I am shopping at Wal*Mart :o

Though I am not part of any MLM scheme, they are not scam or fraud as such. You have to recruit people, people pay the company, and the company pays a part to you. Recruiting people is a tough work and not possible for everyone. So most of people end up losing money to the company and top few percent who do recruit make money. It is not impossible to make millions though it is very tough.

Jago_desi, there is already a thread on Canadiandesi on telemarketing and what you can do about it. You have use the search button. I know this question was addressed to Guruji.

Do not call list in Canada is on the cards but it could take a year or 2 to come into effect.
