I want to share this incident with you and wants your suggestion what type of scam it was?

Today my wife got phone call and the person told her that he is calling from Bell Canada, as you are valued customer of Bell Canada, Bell Canada distributing some prizes to their valued customers and you got one IPOD and two T-shirts.

He confirm our home address with my wife and inform that she will receive one phone call from our computer and computer will provide you a code. This code will be use for confirmation when our delivery person will come to your home.

After couple of minutes, he call again and ask for any other phone number because their computer has any issue when dialing this number. My wife gave my cell number to him. After 2-3 minutes, I got call on my cell and it was pre-recorded message. This call simply provide me one five digits number (with no repeat) and call ended.

After few minutes, my wife called me again and told me that this person from Bell Canada called again and asking for code. She simply refuse that she don't have this code and she will not provide you this code even she know. This person keeping asking about this code and said we will miss our prize. My wife told him that we don't care but we will not provide you this code. After that call was ended and no more call.

What was that??? I never heard this type of story from anyone. What I do now, check our credit history after some time. Please advice.

Whenever I receive such calls telling me that I've won a prize, I tell them to mail it to my home address. If they claim they don't have my address I tell them they can have my prize, and that I'm not interested in the prize.

Simple... call ended...

This scam appears to have started recently but is making the buzz over the Internet.
A quick Google search shows up several instances in the last few months.

Definitely a scam:
Please check your home phone bill to see if any International call is charged:

As SS said above, it's a good rule-of-thumb to assume that if you have really won a prize, the merchant should already have your information including address and phone number.
They shouldn't have to ask for anything, other than maybe delivery time.
So if anyone is calling and asking for information, that is proof enough that you haven't won anything.
This is especially important when scamsters call and ask for bank account information to do direct deposit the prize amount in your bank.
