4k is still a far cry. Too darn expansive. Would have to limit myself to under $800, for which I think I'll have some good options coming this December.

Hi Guys,

Are there any upcoming TV deals this holiday season that you might know of? I am in the market looking to buy a new 55" LED. Right now, almost all stores have the similar pricing for varied models, i.e. between $600 and $700. I am inclined to buy from Costco due to their extended 5 year warranty. Does Costco offer some discounts on Thanksgiving/Boxing days?

My budget is $700.

Thanks.

Hi FP ,

I would suggest wait till Boxing Day. Close to it , check all flyers @ RFD or elsewhere and create a spreadsheet of the TVs ( makes , models , features , prices) .

And reach the store early morning 26th Dec.... From my experience I would recommend it. I got a 55" LED TV for $400/- and love watching it. :)

Hi Febpreet,
Were you able to narrow down the list, for TVs.
Everytime I start to make one for me, I get up being more puzzled.

Mr. Mor,

This is what I found so far. Have been researching the prices and models. Zeroed in on the LG models 55" 120Hz. Not much interested in Smart TV though, so I am flexible. The best deal I could find was on Black Friday at Future Shop. The TV was listed for $749 with the return policy until January 4th. In addition, the optional GeekSquad 3 years warranty for $170. While the deal was good and I was that short of buying the TV, I was more inclined to buy it from Costco and just waiting for the similar price (or a bit more, which is fine). My reason is simple. Costco has 3 months' return policy and optional 3 years warranty (along with the first 2 years free) for $70. Even if the TV is $50 more than Best buy, buying from Costco would be a better deal and provides me a good peace of mind, which is paramount when buying an electronic item.

Visions had the one model up (LG) for about $800 as well. Return policy is 15 days, and the warranty cost is $170 for 5 years. In case the warranty remains unused they return the monies after 5 years in the form of store credit. Not bad, I would say.

Prices across all stores are similar, just vary by $50 or so. So, not quite great deals North of the border. Best Buy US has the same TV (60Hz.) for $500. However, the custom duties, lesser dollar, and International warranties are a real caveat - don't want to waste my time per se.

Another option is to buy a lesser known brand. Target has a good deal going for Hitachi and Element - 55" (60Hz.) for about $500-600. Though, I don't see any reason not to buy these, as LED technology is the same across all brands, I am a bit wary due to my own peace of mind. Fido bought Element for a real good price last year and provided pretty good reviews for the TV.

So, you see? Not quite a good deals, and doesn't look like the price of TVs have subsided much during the last 1 year. It will be interesting to see what different deals are available on Boxing day.

Last but not the least, go through this link if you're interested. According to a study by Vancity, the stores jack up prices a few weeks from Black Friday/Boxing Day and then bring it down a bit to give us a feel of discounted products. While in fact a product sells more than its usual price. We are screwed every year then wait for another.

Thanks for the exhaustive reply, Any particular reasons for not interesteed in the smart tv?
Although the model you've zeroed in on is a smart one indeed.
Costco does have cheaper extended warranty, but I have always found costco more expensive in electronics.
If I have experienced it right can we not return a costco product any time , is there a time frame for electronics?
Do they not have a policy of returning if not satisfied with a product?
Very recently I had returned a luggage set after 3 years, wherein 1 piece was damaged after a single use.
and they did accept it without any fuss.
It was purchased online, and I had communicated the return option over email communications, they simply asked me to drop it at the nearest store for my refund.
Please keep updated, as I am intending to purchase during the xmas holidays
thanks once again for your efforts.
