I always visit India's taste in Brampton. Buffet is $ 8.99. They used to have 4 non veg dishes (mutton was $ 4.99 a lb). I used to eat around $ 10 and waste $ 2 of material. How on earth would the owner make profit.
I have seen lot of Buffet stores close down in bankruptcy.
Ala carte only can bring moolah but you need to be in the right location and right location always cost more money.
It is a very risky business.
I agree that some restaurants (like Kwality) make a lot of money but then that is all due to luck and being the first one.
I am sure that Fido, Bhootnath, Sankaracharya, Ashdefc will agree with me.
Till then,
Peace

Here's what you need to succeed in Canada and my impression based on our post
1. An open mind and the desire to learn more - check
2. Ability to work hard - check (note that you can even work hard in a factory job for years, the next point should make it clear I am not referring to this).
3. A goal and a vision on how to get there - check
4. Ability to differentiate sensible advice (both positive and negative) from nonsense rants - trust me, this is key especially if you're looking for advice on online forums
5. A bit of luck always helps :-)
Based on everything you describe in your post, I would say you should immigrate. However think through it because you'll be giving up a sure thing (that you are likely not very happy with) for uncertainty that may or may not work out as you want it to. Also, the immigration policies regarding parents etc. keep getting tighter and tighter here, so if having your parents with you is a must, it might not work out that way.
Good luck!

Are you there?
To SS,
SS:
The restaurant name is India's taste and it is in Brampton. The Buffet price in 2011 was $ 8.99(+ taxes). Not only they have 4 non veg dishes (and that too costly ones like tandoori chicken and Mutton), they also give unlimited custom made Chaat. It is very good.
If you call me Jeez or having a same mentality, one of my SAP teachers (a lady) getting in excess of $120,000 a year (her husband also works), said that she also tries to eat there every week as it is so cheap. Plus I am sure that she will miss lunch to eat extra at dinner and she was a desi.
May be Desi's donot speak to you much on their intentions and cheap mentality.
Peace

Saru:
You are right on the money.
Looking forward that you immigrate / get a student visa as soon as possible.
Canada needs hard working / studying people like you so that you can work in a field that the Natives (Gora's) donot prefer to work ( hard lifting factory jobs, Cleaning at MacD or Tim etc..).
your taxes will help Canadians (native gora's) live better.
Donot forget that Canada has partial free medical for your betterment and welfare , GIS, OAS etc... EI is an innovative Canadian employment assurance (Google for more info.).
As on date, the Canadian pension plan is fully funded for 70 years.
Welcome to Canada soonest.

Saru I wanted to mention a few points here from my personal experience.
I came here in 2006 with my wife and 6 year old daughter from Delhi. As we were in excellent jobs in India we debated the same points as asked by you. We did that for months.
There were solid very useful threads that were there on CD then that really helped us and inspired us to take a decision of coming to Canada. It was never easy but if we look back I guess it was the best decision we have made.
Canada is a land of opportunities. If you have it in you Canada has it for you. While please read all posts with the same open mind I would suggest spend a lot of time on success stories and what helped those people succeed in there move.
There are 100's of students coming into Canada for various courses. I have not seen one going back.
Good luck in your research and I strongly suggest you make a move when you have a self belief that you will succeed.
