Hello everyone!
Hope everyone is doing good!

I am In serious need of suggestions and advice from Indian immigrants to canada, this advise will be life altering and decisive for my future career.
Based on my personal details and experience I will really appreciate if someone can really advise me.

I am 25 years old unmarried male, living in Mumbai India, have a fairy decent lifestyle living with parents, will be getting married in the next year to my fiancé who is a MBA graduate preiously working in a MNC firm as a assistant marketing manager.
Professional wise I am currently handling my fathers 32 cover fast food restaurant in Mumbai which is doing well since past 26 years, and its our own property located in a decent area of Mumbai. My restaurant is bang opposite to my house so all I do is cross the street to reach my workplace ,ideally I work 12 hours a day 7 days a week doing quite well financially fulfilling all requirements along with decent savings.

I have earlier been in the UK on a student visa and also worked there and loved the work culture and standard of living in westernised country , lets be honest all of us who have lived abroad will definitely agree that the living conditions in India suck, development is far from reach with dirty politics, corruption, inflation I feel it's not worth living in India any more.not really worth living up with the hassles of congestion.
Some of the problems which I strongly feel India has

1)Ever growing corruption( even to get access to a death certificate of a family person you have to bribe)
2)Poor infrastructure ( we still have lots of constructin projects still on paper since decades )
3)Rising cost of living( raising taxation is the main reason, still I a. Sure hardly some amount of taxed money is used for civilians)
4)Congestion,traffic,indiscriminately honking even if no one is on the road!! Hard to understand the logic!
5)Hot weather ( all though nothing much can be done on this one)
6)pseudo Indian culture ( more temples than even schools and hospitals combined)
7) my restaurant land rental value is more than my profit levels so I can even lease it in the long run and get it transferred to canada.

The above really makes me run away from my country for a peaceful and a happy life,a place where you work 5 days in a week spend quality time with yourself and family.
Enjoy driving in traffic free and civilised roads.
Faraway from pseudo Indian culture which makes no sense to me as its all nonsense.
And as I mentioned earlier I know how it's like to struggle initially in a western country to organise and settle in the long run, as I have worked there unfortunately my visa didn't allow me to stay longer in the UK and I had to come back to India.

Things which are taking me aback from migrating to canada
1) I will have no option to come to canada but as a student and do another post graduation course last one was what I did in the UK.
2) I am the sole child of my parents they are 62,55 respectively so definately have their responsibility.
3)well settled business running since 26 years at home ( only option is to let my manager run it till I try out canada as a option a student.rather than closing the business)

Based on above should I really immigrat? Is it waste of time? Or should I try it?
My plans are as follows
1) come as student get used to culture, so out housing, get employment etc.
2) get my fiancé on a dependent visa let her also try out.
3) if things work out they do Keep options of coming back to India open by not winding up business and joining back, if they work well settle in canada convince parents to also join.

As I mentioned I am not fearing early rejection, culture shock, hardwork, doing odd jobs initially, if it helps in the long run.

Thanks !

Dear,

Every country has its plus and minus points. One comes to realize only when one brushes closely with the living conditions. I see you are looking for a country to escape to !

Why not consider the Middle-East; Dubai, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia..

Good advise Many.
Especially I am concerned for the OP>
He thinks that Canada is paved with Gold. He does not know the hardships for desi immigrants here. I am thinking that he may even be pushed in to bankruptcy, if at all he starts a restaurant business ( GTA is flooded with restaurants and it is hard to make any profit).
Hope the OP thinks out of the box and becomes a self made millionaire.

Peace

True fact every stuff has its pros and cons, and you need to experience one to actually get the clear facts!!
Will honestly prefer India than gulf countries where there is no freedom,

Thanks for your concern!! I really appreciate it!!
I am certainly not under illusions that Canadian streets are paved with gold!! Life is hard here but harder in abroad as I had earlier lived and worked in London!!
Some common hardships faced according to my experiences
1) initial stage housing
2) geting a job
3)transport
5) grocerry
6)geting used to the weather and customs.
And the list goes on ..............................
I have no plans to start restaurant or stuff like that , all I want to do us since I am 26 and have age on my side come as student and sort out from there how it is like!!!

Thanks if anyone can help

How come the people are in restaurant business and making no money? Do you think they all are losing money? The only reason of my post is that I know few of the restaurant owners personally. Due to privacy reasons, I cannot disclose their identity but if you live in GTA, can figure it out. One of the famous veg only buffet restaurant owner of Brampton, have paid off houses of worth over 2 million. He is in this business for the last 15 years. Another south indian restaurant owner, who moved to a bigger location last year, in Mississauga, is taking home over 2K every day after all expenses. Another restaurant owner in Brampton, who started just 3 years back, his over 70% sale is take out, has bought an estate home in Castlemore for 1.6 million on bank mortgage and he is managing to pay the mortgage. All these people have only one restaurant and I am not talking about the people who have chain of restaurants. So don’t think the people in restaurant business are making no money. If they are making no money, why are they in the business for so long?

An important factor in the restaurant business is location and another is having a good cook. If the location is convenient, ambience is good and food is tasty, there is no other major reason of failure. The desi culture of GTA is changing dramatically. People are eating out more frequently. The time has changed when the majority of the Desi population of GTA was from rural background that preferred to cook the food at home. Now, both partners are working and they want to eat out at least once a week. This is the real reason that GTA is flooding with restaurants and most of them are making good money.

Now time for disclaimer: my above comments are related to the current restaurant business in GTA based upon my personal observations. I do not suggest or not suggest the OP to migrate to Canada. Immigration is a personal choice and backed up by a number of personal reasons. It is not like – one size fit to all type of thing. Take informed decision with calculated risks. Read word ‘informed’ and ‘calculated’ in capital, bold and red color. I can only wish ‘Good Luck’ (that’s all you need) either way you decide.

Dude!
I am not sure if restaurant business can make any profit in the GTA. Saravana Bhawan had great crowds. Anjappar crowds fizzed away. Udipi is OK but he will not be making much profit.
I always visit India's taste in Brampton. Buffet is $ 8.99. They used to have 4 non veg dishes (mutton was $ 4.99 a lb). I used to eat around $ 10 and waste $ 2 of material. How on earth would the owner make profit.
I have seen lot of Buffet stores close down in bankruptcy.
Ala carte only can bring moolah but you need to be in the right location and right location always cost more money.
It is a very risky business.
I agree that some restaurants (like Kwality) make a lot of money but then that is all due to luck and being the first one.
I am sure that Fido, Bhootnath, Sankaracharya, Ashdefc will agree with me.

Till then,

Peace
