Hello CD Friends
Have anybody visited newyork(US) by Amtrak train services from Toronto or montreal . how is border security and how much time it takes at border for immigration.
We are keen to know how is the train services and if it is comfortable to travel for family to travel with kids and infants.
Is travelling by car a better option. we have plans during this seasons holidays
Thanks for your valuable inputs...
Hi Mak1,
I once considered this but decided against it :
1. The prices are too prohibitive, especially if you consider a family of 4 (2 adutls +2 kids).
2. The timings are not that convienent. If travelling by train, I would like to travel sleeper class so that we can catch up with some sleep at night and also save 1 nights hotel accomodation.
3. The time taken is almost the same as by car.
On the other hand, if travelled by car, we would travel during the day time - take advantage of some sight seeing along the way (though its doubtful in this weather), cheaper costs, flexibility and convienence. The only drawback would be the fatigue of the driver(s).
However, these are strictly my opinion, other CDs may suggest too.
Good luck.
Hiren
My experience, i went frm buffalo to NY, train was v cold...due to AC and I was not prepared, froze ....blankets is good idea (spec in summer) . Other than that I did enjoy good scenic view
Thanks Hiren and Aashu for yr inputs.
If someone else has additional inputs or ur experience pls do share...
I have U.S visit visa , planning to fly to Newyork from India and after visiting one of my friend, same day I would like to take train to Toronto with my friend who is American Green Card Holder.
Any PRs travelled to Toronto thru USA?
Please post your information such as what are the questions asked at Port of Entry into USA- since I am leaving to Toronto same day and if they ask for any US address , I can not provide to the immigration authorities at JFK ,
Will it be a problem?
Where do they check Canadian PR status - while boarding Train in Newyork or in Toronto?
Any difference of rules by train and air to reach Toronto from Newyork?
Please post your replies.
Thanks,

If anybody is short of few weeks to fulfill the PR condition (730 days out of 5 years) can they try the above route to enter Toronto by train?
How they are checking this for Permanent residents when they travel by train to Canada? Anybody has tried?
If we get reply for Beebee's query it would be helpful for many PRs.
If anybody has experienced in this travel route please reply.
Thanks in advance
