Most of the employers in Canada have Health Insurance in Canada. You are also paying for it at your work place. Please get to know this from the Human Resources people at your work place. They normally have a little coverage for most of the medical expenses. Find out how much and what all is covered. Also ask them if the family is covered.
Since you are saying OHIP, I am sure that you are in Ontario. There are other social services agency that will provide you with support services. Contact the nearest one and see how they can provide you with help during this period. They are good. You may have to attend the pre birthing sessions together with the wife and also find out if you can avail a few days off at work on that particular occasion.
As regards the Baby: You will have to apply and get a Birth Certificate in Ontario. You will have to apply for a Canadian Passport for the travels and after the receipt of the same, you have to apply to the Indian Government for an entry Visa in the Passport. All of this will consume 60 days at the least, in normal times. The costs will be about $300 in total.
First and foremost, bring this to the attention of the Family Doctor and he will contact the Hospital that he is associated with and he will make all of the arrangements through his circle of friends and I am sure your wife will be looked after very well and he will be the one to contact and see how he can get some help for you at the location you are at. You should not anticipate any complications if your Family Doctor does not anticipate any. So, keep your fingers crossed and look for a smooth delivery. Entrust the whole issue to him and seek his guidance.
Good Luck to you both.
Freddie.
