I was wondering if anyone, self employed, to be more specific... feels that our desis are very bad in keeping their appointments?

I guess if we start this thread we will be able to understand why people do that and what can be done to avoid this?

Its not just desis to be honest. It maybe a tad more prevalent in our community but in all fairness, I have noticed that people have no respect for others' time in general. Keeping up an appointment is a rarity.

I am not saying I am perfect but I make a very concerted to avoid delays that is truly avoidable. If I have an appointment in the middle of the rush-hour, I make it a point to leave early and give some buffer for the traffic. Something as simple as this, people miss. They conveniently call - thanks to the cell phone - that the traffic is bad and they will be late. Some don't even call.

I have another friend. Anytime I make an appointment with him, he says "yeah, I'll be there...7...7:30...8...8:30....9....you know how it is right?". Such are the morons in this world. Ah well!

Well, I strongly believe in keeping appointments right. Its quite healthy for your business as first impression is the last one. Or it may then take quite long to repair the belief of the person who has suffered due to your failure to meet the required time.

Recently with the gradual increase in the work load, I somehow saw that coming as GTA is quite big and traffic a big time issue. Although initially I would feel the pressure on my pocket/overheads but I signed up with 407 ETR. And yes, I am quite happy with that decision, as I am always on time. In fact my road planning has been very smooth since then.

Those who are self employed and are in sales, should think about it. Its an additional cost to your business but the returns are very high.

Regards,

VJ.

Well as far as I am concerned , I have always tried to be on time and generally am. I guess this is one of the things I have learnt from my dad who was in the air force is to be always on time +- 5 minutes at max.

Also, In the western world it does't seem right to be late and waste somebody else's time or be early and catch him/her unprepared.

I guess I shoud have been more specific, I am a self employed and I am always on time... when I started the thread I meant people who we go to meet ... they just take us as granted and never ever call if they are not going to be home.

Sometimes we have to long distance to meet someone and we remind them day before the appointment, few hours before the appointment but still they will stay " Oh! I forgot". even if you ask them to write somewhere they won't.

It's just they do not give any priority to it. Don't they think even once that other people also have life. They think they are doing a favor by meeting agents that represent different companies.

This is so frustrating. On the other hand when ever I have an appointment with a NON-Desi.. I always find them prepared to greet us. Never Late.

We are very particular about time and ensuring we are where we say we will be at a certain time.

Sometimes i lose patience withthose running on indian standard time as we call it :)

We once left a restaurant after waiting an hour for 15 other people to show up. We were there on time!

In the business world it is upto the needy to keep appointment. No matter if I am on buying side or selling side, it is the needy that has to bend. Sometime there are people who force appointment on you. Those appointments are on the bottom of priority list. If something important pops up, it is the least priority work that gets knocked off. It is a rare occurance but it does happen. You like it or not, that is the way business world moves. It is difficult to explain the situation however sometime it is very difficult to keep all the appointment that are made. If somebody is not living up for the appointment and do not call back to cancel, it is a message for you. They do not need your service. In that case why do you want to waste your and other person time.
