Hi Guys ,

I have now completed 3mths in Canada .

My Husband Has got his G2.(He has been driving in Muscat , Oman for 13yrs ).

We are looking out for a used car and a good insurance company that will consider my husband's out canada driving experience for the auto insurance.

NOW the other question.

How do i safely buy a used car (not more than $3000)( I have chckd the CD Classifieds)?

Where do i start looking for insurance agents ?

Which is the best Insurance company from U'r experience here in Canada with the lowest rate ?

I was told that i shld buy only 3rd party insurance .

As a frist time buyer i am very confused . I don't want to buy a new car as the Insurance would be too high which i can't afford .

I am not working , so it is a single low income family right now . I hope that we should be able to buy a new car next year when both my husband and i are in better jobs .

Guys any advise for this new sooo confused Immigrant

jenny

hi jenny
you can also check autotrader.ca or kajiji.ca for used cars. most ppl will say buy japanese car. but i will suggest you to go with american car. it's you first car so your insurance will be very high with japanese car and repair too. if you go with american you will save from insurance and repair will be cheap too.

for insurance TD or Belair direct or PC Financial are good for beginners. if your budget is around $3000 thn for sure go for liability only (3rd party). state farm is good too but they will not accept you unless you have few years canadian driving experience.

aslo one more thing..take your time to find a good one...don't rush. looking for car means looking for friend. also don't buy the very first one you test drive or looked at..give yourself a few options and then make a selection.

Just want to let you know that even the liability ( 3rd party Insurance can be costly) will cost you around 150-200 per month .Most insurance companies only accept your driving experience from US, UK and Australia not from other countries. So it is going to be Costly.

Check out this link

http://www.servicedomino.com/html_files/consumer.shtm

of interest to help you make a decision maybe the following links on that page

1)Canadian Black Book value of the used vehicle.
2) APA: to look into their investigations into used car dealers and the ones that passed and failed. I would also recommend a mechanical inspection from them...though it will cost you about 100$
3) The Insurance Canada link(unnder the insurance section)
4) Links to car reviews and ratings.
