Hi,

I got some questions regarding Insurance..

- I just moved recently from US, exchanged my US license with a Ontario's G-License.
- I am looking to buy a Used Honda Civic/Corolla around 96-98 Models.
- I have more than 6 years of driving experience in US, does that help in getting a better insurance quote.
- I am a family person with a child. Family status and profession used as a factor to reduce the Insurance Price in U.S.., is it the case with Canada too?

I am seriously thinking of buying from Dealer (despite a 7% additional cost), because, they atleast make sure the essentials with the vehicle so that it runs OK.

- If you know some good dealers, or their representatives, Please let me know.

- If any one on the board is a dealer/rep, please PM me with details.

Regards,
J.

I believe it does. TD quoted me about 5k/yr for 2 cars with just ON license and about $3k/yr if my US driving experience could be included.

The key is that you may have to prove your driving and insurance claims history through your US insurance provider and DMV records (which sometimes is a pain in the butt).

Hope this helps.

No intention to plant doubts, but also keep in mind that not all dealers are trustworthy. I saw a news report on CTV few months back. The reporter showed how dealers try to sell a car claiming to be previously owned by an old lady. But then the reporter pointed out few things in the car that clearly showed that it was used as a cab.

But I see your point. After sale, dealers just can't run away. You can also go for extended warranty from the same dealer.

Besides this, you are not a novice first time buyer :)

You driving history would certainely help (Assuming you have good driving history). Also if you can get no claim certificate from your US insurance company that will get you good discount.

I believe in most cases, you should try and transfer your coverage through your US insurance company, assuming they do business in Canada.
If that is the case, they usually carry forward all the discounts, driving record, etc.
You won't have to worry about getting driving abstracts, no claims certificats, etc.

Hi,
Do you know which US insurance company operates in Canada?
Please name a few.
I heard State Farm operates in both the countries.
