ok..... let me clarify

Initially, she worked fulltime at walmart and did part-time volunteering for VON, at the same time tried for a job in SW field.

Now, she works parttime(weekends only) at Walmart and is undergoing 5 months voluntary at a Women's Shelter. After Feb 2004, we'll know if she can get full time position at this Shelter or elsewhere.

Am I clear now:(

So many have "advised" others on this board to look for voluenteer jobs to gain entry in Canadian workforce.
But where is everybody now?
Are we just telling others what we ourselves have not verified so far?
Is this voluenteer thingy a mere fiction? or has it actually worked for someone?

i've never volunteered yet...heard that it works. Have never had the chance to verify or know someone who has done so.

What is volunteer work? Is it working for experience without getting paid ?

Exactly. Students do it quite a bit.

I have not encountered any Desi who could successfully find a FT perm job after volunteering.

But my cousin, canadian born, did quite a bit of volunteering while studing BA at Wilfred Laurier, Waterloo and then MSW at UofT, She got FT job as a social Woker at Sunnybrook hosp. no sooner she got her MSW degree!!!

So you see, things are different for canadian born desis :(
