Hi Friends !
I'm a PR in Canada, i'm a software engg and doing good so far.
Recently, i got a job offer with a USA firm in detroit and they are paying the same amount as i'm getting in canada.
I just wanted to know, will settling in usa be the right decision ?
in simpler terms..
Which is better to settle USA or CANADA.

You can complain because roses have thorns or you can rejoice because thorns have roses.
It depends !!! if your US company is ready to sponsor your green card then its Ok to think about it. It takes 4 years approx to get a US Green card. If you already are making the same amount of salary in Canada and have a chance of becoming a citizen in 3 years why not stay back? But again it depends on what you are looking for. You also have to be mentally prepared that you may be laid off in US as has been the fate of a lot of Desis in US. And end up losing your job in canada too !!!
I live in US and US $ does go longer than canadian $.

Microsoft - Which end of the stick do you want today?
I agree with DT. Don't lose your foothold in Canada. It you are well settled there, why do you want to move to US? Think well before making any decisions.
Here's my advice. If you have got a job in Detroit, you can, as they say, have your cake and also eat it! Move to Windsor which is at the US-Canada border. Detroit is just across the border. Live in Windsor, work in Detroit..there are lots of people doing this! Wonder why no one has mentioned this to you earlier!

what u have 2 understand is that if a company sponsors u to work in USA, will not entitle u for the green card and u can not apply for a green card there either. i presume when u say a permanent resident, that means what, a landed immigrant or citizen?
for a citizen, u get TN Visa (Trade Nafta Visa) which is only for north americans, but 4 canadians it is lot easier vis-a-vis mexicans. tn visa is only for one year but renewable. ur spouse can not work in usa unless he/she also gets a job offer. u can not apply for a green card either. if u job-hop, then u have to get the tn visa again with the help of other employer. so be prepared for these cons.
u could live in windsor as someone suggested, provided ur work is not in ann-arbor or lansing which is a long drive from windosr. ur taxation will not be the same but litlle more. u will be taxed at the border if u shop more than 50 dollars a day. there is a huge list.
the good thing is, us dollar will take u a long way and for professional advancement/development u will be more satisfied. in canada, it is good for farmers and laborers even in 21st century.
if u r a single guy then think not twice and move. who know u could b next inventor of the 5th generation software and ofcourse a billionaire
