How many here have this?

Is this unnecessary?

It covers posessions inside the house.

What happens in case of theft in an appartment with controlled access?

I was sold on this saying that it actually brings down the Auto insurance.
I also have an umbrella policy.

Depends on what you have in the house.
If you have expensive jewellery, art work, collectibles, etc. it is a good idea.

I found that renter insurance is very cheap and normally doesn't cause a significant dent in your monthly expenses.

Insurance is insurance, regardless of whether the apartment has a security system or not.
If there is a theft, your insurance should cover it.
But it is better to check with them - don't assume anything.

It doesn't technically "bring down" insurance, but you do get a discount.
The moment you remove the rental insurance, the auto rates will go back to the previous level.

Hope this helps.
