The "disgust" statements do not fit Winnipeg. The people are friendly and you may go ahead and join the college. It is very safe and you will not regret it.

Good that I saw this thread.
blink_guy, I am living here in Winnipeg, and I am very happy about it
People are intelligent enough to understand that one can find extreme plus and minus points on internet about anything... and those may be true in selective cases, or perhaps generally too!
First six months I didnt like Winnipeg, reasons were job prospects and personal ones. Now that, everything got settled, I recommend newcomers to start life from here. Any questions, feel free to PM me.
Thanks LD and Thinking One for the replies. I was beginning to think there isn't anyone on the forum from Peg. Well, I have decided to apply at RRC because I've asked a couple of passouts about the course that I want to study and they've all had high regards for the college. Did anyone see the new Princess Street campus? I've heard its awesome. Will PM you ThinkingOne once I get accepted. Thanks again for the help. I needed a desi prespective

blink_guy,
I have seen both campuses of RRC - Notre Dame and Princess St. I realize tuition fees are heavy - running thousands of dollars, but still lower than other provinces, and the job prospects of graduated students are better than other colleges in Winnipeg. Which course are you applying to? Let me know if you or anyone need any more information regarding this college.
Feel free to PM me. I would be happy to help you out for anything you need for your initial settlement. If anyone has drive to excel, they will change things at Antarctica too.
Cheers.
Hey ThinkingOne, I really really appreciate that fact that you've offered to help. I have a feeling that Indians are far and few between in Winnipeg. Now I know if I wanted to be with Indians I should have stayed back here, LOL, that's what my friends say but it's comforting to know that you have someone who you can relate to before venturing into the unknown.
Anyway, I'm applying for the 2 year Diploma in Graphic Design course at RRC. I did research a bit on the internet and found some ex RRC students who had studied that course and they said that I should apply without second thoughts. I am feeling pretty good about my choice cause the tuition was less 9.5k/year as oppose to 10.5k upwards in Onatrio and BC and rent was also quite cheap (on the RRC student services website atleast) 350/month for heat/water/electricity/high speed/cable in the West End area. That's not bad right? Maybe you can fill me in on those areas. Anyway, thanks for all the help and will PM you when I get accepted (hope I do!!)

The information you have is correct. Graphic Design is a good choice. Make sure, this aligns with your future goals.
There are better areas to live in instead of Westend. Contact me before coming here. I dont check CD site very regularly nowadays, so feel free to email me.
Thanks and Regards.
Oh yeah it aligns with my future plan. It's not some "shortage occupation" propoganda. Lol. I've already enrolled in a foundation GD course here in India and I'm also taking art classes for traditional drawing. I just wanna make sure I prepare myself for the programme and the portfolio requirments. About West End, the reason why I choose that is because of the proximity to RRC and downtown. Anyway, I'm sure there are better areas which are hopefully well connected by public transit. Coming to which, have you ever travelled by public transit? How is it or should I say how safe is it?
