Acclimatizing for Canada.
Hey buddy,
You are right in putting up this question.Many of us ar in their30's or late and do take some time to mobilize things, to adapt to a new environment and also 'taste' some shockers, like no canadian experience,no job!,dependent on our contacts,relatives for sometime,etc...
Many are already with their families and it does involves mentally preparing for a 'change'in yor lifestyle and living.
Instead of being alarmed or panic in such situations,like whom to contact if you want to visit the HRDC,to know the directions, what if you ae 'misguided',etc do come in your mind.
Ofcourse'Hope' in the ley issue here but it would always be better to repeat over the things people(those who have landed)have undergone.
Whom to contact,what to do first, how to spend time ,etc.. in the initial settlement period.

Prepare yourself for hell.
I see you are from India .I dont know your background or age or family.
If you are highly skilled or talented you might find a slim chance of finding a job otherwise your life will be hard and miserable.
You will end up doing odd jobs and most of your hard earned money that you bring from India will disappear within a few months.
You wil end up as most of them here tired weary miserable souls who trudge the path of their daily life filled with hopes that will never materialize.
Dont bring misery onto yourself and your family by coming here.
Your life in India is much better and you cant make any dollar savings as you might imagine.
This is a cold and miserable place with no life .
My sincere advise dont even dream about this god forsaken country.
If you still want hell come along and join the souls.

I am not sure you want to take this as the only path when you get here. There are many cases, where people have been able to live life after coming here. I know a guy who came here and within 1 month was able to land a decent job as a software developer. It is true, in many cases, it is hardship to start with. But.. there is work and hardship everywhere. The only thing I would suggest is that if you are working and can take a leave of absence then do so and understand what your limits are and when enough is enough?! Dont think that this is the end of everything, be prepared to go back if you find that what you had before was better. That is all. If you get tied up in all this other stuff, there is no end to it..

We have some seriously cynical people here! tsk tsk! You gotta wonder why they are still in Canada?
These are my points:-
1) Make sure you examine the reasons for uprooting yourself and moving to a different land. Ask very specific questions regarding your expectations. If you expect to land in Canada and have money fall from the sky - ask someone you trust about it. Everything about how it falls and what to do with it!! just joking!
2) Canada has been good to a lot of Indians. On the whole the Indian community here is growing and prospering. That is no joke.
3) Moving from one socio-cultural enviroment to another involves change. Everything from how you interact with others, to how you live. Practically everything you do will have to change. Again, ask specific questions about these topics and re-examine your reasons for moving.
4) Canada is an immigrant nation. People (including Indians) have come to Canada and made it home. The level of achievement in social and economic arena is dependant on YOU! Success is subject to the measuring stick. For example, if politics is your game then being the Prime minister is success.
I hope these points help you to sort some of the responses here. But most importantly, I hope it makes you examine the reasons for your decision to immigrate, and to set up a measuring stick for success.

Prepare your mindset. Set plans of getting things done in your favour. Try to match your immediate needs with the resources you are taking, primarily, money. Try to see how you can budget your expenses till such time that you can start earning. Read about Canada. I am sure this website has enough details to keep you on the right track but beware of so many prejudices and the narrow outlooks that each post may carry. Sorry but it's true. Another good thing would be internet. CD.com is not the be all and end all of everything but just a basic source of Canada through the eyes of negative minded (mostly....oops, sorry) Indians/desis. There are a lot many options open for you in Canada, just don't get stuck with what you want. Remember Canada is a country which needs to be harnessed, not a country like USA where systems of economic success are rampant everywhere waiting to be plucked you. Canada, geographically is a bigger country but it's economic reaches ae not as affluent as USA. Put no comparison in your mind, just walk through and grab whatever you have.
