Hi Friends

Please share your experiencies about Testing Tools in Canada. It seems from workpolis.com website there are lots of advertisements for Quality Assurance Analyst(QA)/Testers.

What are the skills the employers looking. Is it just Automated tools like Mercury tools or some thing else required.

Thanks to you all for sharing your valuable advise.

GKM.

Employer dependant these tools are. But yes, Mercury Interactive, Rational have good presence in market.

Is Rational a testing or Design Tool (OO)?

SO for these tools I assume we have to take training directly from the makers?

Rational Corporation was taken over by IBM. Tools names still exist with 'Rational' prefix though.

The wide range of Rational suite includes tools for different stages of software development life cycle e.g.

Rational Unified Process. An online collection of software best practices that guides team through the software development process. Provides guidelines, templates, and Tool Mentors (instructions for applying the guidelines to specific Rational tools) for each phase of the development lifecycle.

Rational RequisitePro. Helps you organize, prioritize, track, and control changing project requirements.

Rational ClearQuest. Manages change activity associated with software
development, including enhancement requests, defect reports, and documentation modifications.

Rational ClearCase LT. Provides software configuration management and a built-in process to track changes to all software project assets, including requirements, visual models, and code.

Rational SoDA. Automatically generates project documents by extracting
information from files you produce during project development, including source code and files produced by Rational tools.

Rational TestManager tracks how many tests have been planned, scripted, and run; which requirements have been covered; and the number of tests that have passed and failed.

Rational Clearquest for Defect Management.

Thus Rational suite is meant for different roles such as analysts, developers, testers at different stages of SDLC

For analysts: Rational Rose (Professional Data Modeler Edition).

For Developers: Rational Rose (Enterprise Edition) - with UML
Rational Purify. Pinpoints run-time errors and memory leaks
Rational PureCoverage. Identifies which parts of code have and have not been exercised.
Rational Quantify. Profiles the application to help you identify performance bottlenecks in your code.

For Testers:
Rational Robot. Facilitates functional and performance testing by automating record and playback of test scripts. Allows you to write, debug, and run tests, and to capture results for analysis.
Rational TestFactory. Automates testing by combining automatic test generation with source-code coverage analysis. Tests an entire application, including all GUI features and all lines of source code.
Rational Purify, Rational PureCoverage, Rational Quantify.

Rational vendors provide training for above. BTW, I may think of providing such training off-line, if someone wants.

Cheers.

Currently I specialize in Software Testing and Training. However, Three years ago, I had been in variety of shoes such as software developer, maintenance/production support, configuration manager, project manager, Test Lead, Trainer etc.

Got something for me? :type: let me know if we need to talk more :ylsuper: :L

MERCURY6

1. Stick to your core competence - so if you have PL/SQL programming experience and an OCP Application Developer certification , then revisit these areas and upgrade.

2. If you want to diversify, then diversify in related areas - like XML (Content Management), or Business Intelligence ( Discoverer 4.1). These skills will be addons to your core skills. Yes - Data modelling knowledge is always welcome.

Remember, with technical related jobs moving at break neck speed to India, one has to be a real technical GURU in his/her area to survive in the long term in North America. Certifications without experience is a tough sell.

Best of luck. Let me know if I can be of any further help.
