Pape and gerrard is pretty close to indian market segment of gerrard street.i was crossing that intersection today and remembered about this post.... i'd say it is not the best of the areas ....not unsafe but had a lot of chinese , vietnamese stores seemed like a pretty commercial area with small businesses.

Gerrard street was a slum in the seventies. We can see that by the condition of the houses.
Dear Pandu Bhaiya,
I do not think that a slum = unsafe. Please, do let me know if it is unsafe.
I am saying this because if you know about Delhi (south delhi-the posh area is the most unsafe area for single women and the elderly)
Therefore, I think being a posh area or a poor area has nothing to do with safety.
